Swiss Cheezhead
All right -- I'm bored, and I'm tired of seeing so little traffic in this forum. Here are the rules: Pick one player at each position (DE, DT, LB, CB, and S) who will make the BIGGEST JUMP from '06 points-per-game production to '07 points-per-game production. This should encourage people to share players who aren't IDP "household names" yet. Simple enough? Good. I'll start. (points references based on GMX scoring) DE: Bert Berry Berry averaged 7.6 points per game last year (when healthy), but I think he has strong potential to reach 12 PPG this year. The Cardinals will play both 4-3 and 3-4, so Berry will spend a lot of time at linebacker...but will stay listed as a DE. Most experienced IDPers know that the LB/DE hybrids are often great values at the DE position. DT: Jonathan Babineaux He played in all 16 games in 2006, but only averaged 4.4 points. However, with Grady Jackson gone and Rod Coleman still hurt, Babineaux will be relied on to make some plays from the interior. Also, defenses will have to pay attention to a healthy John Abraham and newly drafted Jamaal Anderson, so Babineaux will have room to operate. I envision around 9 points per game this season. LB: Keith Ellison Nobody's really talking about this guy, but he fell into a really nice situation. Fletcher-Baker and Spikes are gone, and Crowell is moving to SLB. Posluszny, a rookie, is the only remaining threat to take a significant amount of tackles. As the new starting WLB in a cover-2 defense, Ellison could easily double his 7.7 PPG from 2006. CB: Ike Taylor Taylor's down year in '06 is well documented, and it wasn't any better from a strictly IDP fantasy perspective -- he only averaged 9.6 PPG. However, the addition of Mike Tomlin will have two hugely positive effects on Taylor. First, Tomlin's specialty is coaching DBs, and he's already made Taylor his "pet project" based on his talent. He'll help Taylor play his best football to date. Second, Tomlin brings more cover-2 schemes, so Taylor will be asked to help a lot more in the run game. He should average 12-13 PPG this season. S: Adam Archuleta This is probably the easiest choice of them all. From any angle, Archuleta's 2006 campaign in Washington was a disaster. He averaged just under 8 PPG. Now, though, he's back in Lovie Smith's scheme -- the same scheme in which he posted 102 solos as a Ram in 2002. And even since Smith went to Chicago, the scheme has remained very FF-friendly to the SS; Mike Brown, when healthy, has scored very well at that position. Now, Brown is moving to FS, and Archuleta has a clear path to a productive 2007 season on the strong side. Look for 13-14 PPG.
Bronco Billy
LB Johnny Baldwin, DET The rookie has been flying under some radars, even to the point of going undrafted in some IDP leagues. There is not a whole lot of competition for the MLB in DET, with Lennon holding the spot pretty much by default. DET's coaches have been raving about his speed & aggressiveness. It's very possible that this guy could win a starting MLB spot in a 4-3 D and can be had cheaply.
T_bone65
DJ WIlliams MLB, Den I am fairly new to IDP but I think his move to MLB will open up plenty of opportunity for some serious increase in production. I have picked him up in both my dynasty rookie drafts, once in the 6th round and once in the 5th round. We have no bonified MLB on my Lions and as you said they are raving about him in camp. All summer long I had heard he was moving to the middle. Now all of a sudden it's the strong side. And only on April 30th, they had posted that Crowell was playing the weak side. If he moves to the strong side, I just wasted a ton of money on him in a local IDP league. Seeing as how we only start 3 in a 12 team league, spending the cash in RFA I did is gonna hurt as I banked on him starting in the middle or weakside. Swiss Cheezhead
Definitely a good call on Baldwin -- I got him in DW2 and DW3 (only had one pick in GMX) based on opportunity alone. The recent reports sure made me feel smart.
darin3
Some good names here. IDP rookie sleepers (drafted 2nd day) will be discussed in a main page article here in a few days. Stay tuned. Weekly IDP sleepers will be available as always on the main page. I love Baldwin; wanted him in one of my IDP dynasties but missed out. Archuleta should have a nice season for the Bears. D.J. Williams really isn't a sleeper but is certainly a huge breakout candidate who's on everyone's list.
TheShiznit
OK, I have a homer pick....but only cause it makes some sense. Dusty Dvorcek DT Chicago Bears. With Tank Johnson out( and an argument can be made Dusty would have started in front of Johnson anyway) and Tommie Harris demanding more attention such as double teaming, this is gonna open it up for him to make plays. He was a very good player at....I think Nebraska....and was having an excellent camp last year until he was hurt. I wouldn't waste a draft pick on him in my IDP draft, but if we are looking for improvement....He would qualify. I see him being a top 15 tackle this year. Randall
Pollard or Page, KC. Looks like both may be the starting safeties and Pollard could be a sleeper if named SS. If Page is the starter he is a bg play threat and could be even better.

If Page is the starter he is a bg play threat and could be even better. While we're talking KC, how about Turk McBride, the versatile DL drafted out of Tennessee. With Jared Allen serving a 4-game suspension to start the season, McBride could start opposite last year's rookie sensation Tamba Hali on the Chief line. If he plays well, he could certainly move inside and retain a starting position once Allen returns.

Stingers
Not really too much of a sleeper but Freddie Keiaho - IND WLB - the job is his to lose - the kid has talent and look what that position did for Cato June - who isn't near as talented as Keiaho IMHO. Mark Anderson - I think if Chicago trades Alex Brown - Anderson starts full time. His stats will go up even higher. Again not really a sleeper but Roman Harper NOS safety. A lot of people might have forgotten about him after his knee was injuried last year. Latest is he is in fine shape and working out with the team - he started off really well last season - stats should be even better this season. Crowell is one of those LBs who will still be startable even as a SLB. The guy just has a nose for the ball & racks up tackles. It does drop him from a top 10 LB to being a low #2/good #3 LB though. Hasn't Brown been named the backup at both end positions while on the trade block? I hope Anderson does better than Will Smith has done after being named the starter. TheShiznit
Dusty went to the same school as Tommie Harris. OKLAHOMA THANKS So, do you think he will have a good year... I think he will be stellar. I saw in training camp last year and he was awesome I thought.
Sgt. Ryan
That pair should cause havoc inside. He is strong as an ox, but isnt fast, so I wouldnt expect many sacks. But should have avg tackle numbers, and may free up one of the DE outside.

The guy reminds me of Steve McMichael. He turned out to be a VERY good interior lineman. I am not sure how fast Dvorcek is....but McMichael wasn't very fast and he had a number of sacks each season because of D'animal. And when you have two better than average ends to have to worry about...you don't have to be fast to sack a QB trying to escape a collapsing pocket. But, to be fair...I don't think he will rack up the sacks either....I think he will stuff the run with one on one blocking.

URLACHERisGOD
DT Kevin Williams (MIN): We all know he has the ability to do some damage but, he all but disappeared last year. Erasumus James doesn't appear that he will be 100% by the start of the season. But, when James does come back, expect a jump in Williams' numbers. DE Cullen Jenkins (GB): KGB is getting old and Kampman will be getting most of the attention. Jenkins could easily record 10 sacks this year. LB Jamar Williams (CHI): So far in camp, Williams has taken Briggs' WSL snaps with the first team. If Briggs' doesn't play, Williams could put up some nice tackle numbers. CB Cedric Griffin (MIN): With Griffin's size, he is great in run support and the cover 2 in Minnesota caters to him. He only started 4 games last year but, if you projected those stats out over 16 games, Griffin would have been a top 10 DB and a top 5 CB. S Brodney Pool (CLE): With Brian Russell gone, Pool is now the sole starter. Pool put up 69 total tackles last year sharing time with Russell. Now that he no longer has to share the position, 100+ total tackles isn't out of the question.
