The RAGE

I have been running a league for abut 6 years. I am adding a flex player this year. Line up would consist of 1 qb 2 rbs 2 wrs 1 te 1k and a flex. We use standard yardage scoring system. I heard that the flex player should be a receiver or running back. Is it ok to allow to be a quarterback also.

Not the norm. I've never been in a league that had a QB allowed in the flex. All my leagues have been RB/WR, WR/TE, or RB/WR/TE.

The flex can also be a TE, but not a QB. The QB position is different from those other positions in availability anc typical scoring that he should not be included.

While I have seen some leagues that do allow the QB to be used as a flex, it is definitely not the norm. Also, as the way typical leagues score, QBs as a whole score a lot more than any other position, so to suddenly throw them into the mix in the flex means they would have a sudden major upswing in value (basically, it would be foolish to not have a QB in the flex).

Usually the flex spot would be an additional RB/WR/TE. If you want to help balance the value of RBs and WRs, might I suggest making the minimum number of starting WRs 3 rather than 2... and also introduce the flex.

I can absolutely vouch for this. It took me awhile to realize that starting 2 QB's (1 as the flex) is absolutely the way to go. Some people in this league still haven't figured it out, but it almost seems unfair for those that have.

This is probably just me, but I have never liked playing in leagues that allow the possibility to start 3 RBs. RBs are already overvalued in fantasy, why make them even more valuable by giving the option to start 3? MML uses a format that I like best....QB, RB, 3WRs, TE, DEF, Flex (RB,WR,TE)

We tried 2 QB's in 1996. I won that season with Brunell and Steve Young. We stopped after only one season as it really did not feel like football. Teams play w/o a TE in some sets, 4 WR's, even 3 RB's...nut not q/2 QB's, Randle El and Brad Smith aside.

I like the idea of adding 2 QBs, to me playing a FF game is competing within the rules. You've just added a big twist that the league needs to figure out how to take advantage of - re-evaluate their rankings, etc..... Sounds like fun, wish it was my league.

This sums it up quite well.

Think of a typical team 1 QB, 1 PK, 1 DT, but the other positions can have multiples of 2-3 or 4.

Allowing teams to flex to 2 QBs is Elton John, Nathan Lane, and figure skating all rolled up in one.

It would work quite well in an 8 man league - maybe even 10 man. 12+ though I wouldn't recommend it. In an 8 man there's very little premium on getting a top QB since there are so many vialbe starters available. Allowing two QB's really makes them something to think about instead of just throwing whatever you have into your lineup. Even better if you keep your rosters small.
