Are you going to bother replying to the fact that the very same gun you are expecting to save you from worst case scenarios could actually help create a worst case scenario? I mean, it's pretty easy to explain your side if you continue to harp on the fact that those without guns are just hoping the guys not there to hurt them. However, none of you are willing to believe for a second that confronting a guy with a gun could turn what was only going to be a burglary into something worse. It's as if that's any less likely than a guy randomly breaking into a house to rape someone.

Same answer.

I'm willing to take the chance that my having a gun is better than hoping the burglar is a decent fellow.

So, your main concern is making the bad guy mad?

No, my main concern is not having the bad guy shoot me or my wife. Don't be so freaking defensive about your choice to own a gun that you are unable to see how it could have bad and unintended consequences for you. That is the risk you take. That doesn't mean you shouldn't own one, but it's not like a magical forcefield that protects you from harm.

Each of our choices have risks involved. That's pretty much it. It's just that it seems only one of us is willing to see the issue from both sides and not just drudge up the same tired argument again and again.

I was just busting your balls a little. Lighten up Francis. :D

Can you actually make a decent argument without skewing the words of the guy you're arguing with?

I don't believe I'm skewing anything. If I understand your position correctly, you would rather not confront a burglar with a gun of your own because he might harm you in some way or disarm you and use your own gun against you, or possibly just tie you and your wife up - then rob you and leave.

I'd rather have a gun with which to confront the burglar to decrease the chance of him harming me or my family.

I understand your position, I just don't agree with it.
