SheikYerbuti
So the Shiekette is into tex-mex. She went to UT and tells me about places like Taco Cabana in Austin where the burritos are cheap, big and delicious. Well, living in Jersey the best we can do when I don't feel like making homemade guac and seasoning beef and dicing tomatoes and grating cheese is Taco Bell. It's close, it's cheap, and () I'm starting to think it's pretty damned tasty. Of course, I douse everything with Fire Sauce. As far as the burger joints go, I don't eat McDonalds EVER (except the fries. . .man those fries are good), but I don't mind Wendy's. I think the L&T are pretty fresh, and I like that they put mustard on the burgers standard. Sound out guys. . .let's hear about your favorite drive-thru. SheikYerbuti
Surf Taco Looks like the closest one is Forked River. ..about an hour north of me. There's plenty of great hispanic food in AC. Think about it. . .14 casinos, each with about 1500 rooms. Do you know how many housekeepers that adds up to?? SheikYerbuti
occasionally Chik-Fil-A. I have a serious problem with Chik-Fil-A. There's one in the food court of our local mall. They have great waffle fries. . .but about 3 years ago they stopped offering melted cheese sauce. Now you have to get the fries from Chik-Fil-A and go across the food court and get a 75 cent side of cheese sauce from the cheesesteak joint. What a pain in the a$$! polksalet
If I had the drive and determination I would open a Taco Cabana here and be a millionaire in 5 years. It is the greatest chain "restaurant" and one would fly here, big time.

I told them "of course it f*cking isn't; if I wanted authentic I'd go to a Mexican restaurant owned by actual Mexicans. But this is 'Taco Bell' food made by authentic 'Taco Bell employees' and as such I find it fairly enjoyable within its price/convenience range." Even ordering carry out takes a bit longer and costs about twice as much as TB. And Hector's has the best margaritas in the city, so I'm not ordering takeout, and probably spending about four times what I would at TB. Now, I DEFINITELY prefer Hector's to TB, but sometimes you have that drunken craving, a short period of time, or only five bucks. TB does the job. Expecting more would be like expecting McD's/BK to do better than one of those greasy old burger joints that serves you a half-pound seasoned patty on a toasted bun with your choice from 3-4 types of cheese, and maybe some REAL thick-sliced bacon - ain't gonna happen. Bier Meister
this talk inspired a messican craving.... went to the mom-n-pop that is so-so. tried their pork... was looking for carnitas, but they only had shreaded... was ok.. little salty. i just don't think i am going to go back there........ might be doing more TB in the future

detlef
I've always had issue with In-n-out fries. They advertise that they're cut to order, but that's simply a bad way to make fries. You really need to soak them for a while in water or at least blanch them or they don't stay crispy, and theirs is a perfect example. Within minutes, they're limp and chitty. The burgers are, however good. Of course, we don't have them here and my wife and I think Hardees makes the best burgers in terms of fast food chains. The thickburger is pretty damned good. I went to DC and all I heard about was 5 guys so I went there and thought it was actually a pretty crappy burger and the fries suffered from the same issues that in-n-out do. The burger itself completely fell apart in my hands. I haven't been to McDonalds since I was in HS. I ate the entire menu in 2 hours on a dare and figured that should hold me over for the rest of my life. Hands down, my favorite junk/fast food around here is either Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen for a friend chicken biscuit or a BLT at the Merrit Store. Again, in terms of chains, it's a Thickburger at Hardees. I can also get down with Bojangles. We also prefer Cracker Barrel to pretty much every other b-fast joint in town and that includes plenty of mom and pops.
SheikYerbuti
I haven't been to McDonalds since I was in HS. I ate the entire menu in 2 hours on a dare Seriously, that is AWESOME. You must have been We also prefer Cracker Barrel to pretty much every other b-fast joint in town and that includes plenty of mom and pops. Driving to my folks' in Jacksonville we used to make Cracker Barrel our regular stopping place, they're everywhere once you get south of the mason/dixon line on I-95. But now they're always packed so full we go other places. Oh, and I meant to mention Arby's. Yes, Arby's. I'm sure you all remember the NASTY roast beef sandwiches of our youth and the soggy fries. I'm telling you, they've totally revamped and made the food 100 times better than when we were kids. The best thing on the menu is the chicken salad. It's got grape halves and chopped walnuts and diced apple in it, and it's really very good chicken salad. . .no joke.
budlitebrad
Moe's Southwest Grill is where I usually go. If I'm in a rush, I'll grab a quesadilla from Taco Bell.
SheikYerbuti
Moe's Southwest Grill is where I usually go. If I'm in a rush, I'll grab a quesadilla from Taco Bell. A Moe's opened up about 2 years ago here, and the Shiekette was addicted for a while. Then we had a few bad experiences and decided to stop eating there. The burritos were VERY salty. It was like eating a salt lick. . . not sure which ingredient was oversalted, but it happened twice in the span of 3 visits so we've taken it off the list. Hardee's has really stepped up to the plate in terms of giving you a good burger for a fair (not great) price. Seems that for some reason they just don't draw the business that the subpar McD's and BK do.
TDFFFreak
As others have said, when it comes to a fast food burger, In-N-Out is hard to beat for the price (and it's better than most other burgers regardless of price). There's a local joint near me call The Apple Pan-- great hickory burger with a smoky taste and delicious fries. A little over-priced, but it hits the spot. Seems many people have a love it or "overrated" attitude towards it. McDonald's is crap and I only go in a pinch when nothing else fast is open and near-by. I hardly eat taco bell anymore, but I don't find it as repulsive for the mexican fast food category as many around say. Baja Fresh is my Mexican fast food of choice. Chavez
I hardly eat taco bell anymore, but I don't find it as repulsive for the mexican fast food category as many around say. Like I said before, the problem is people regard it as "Mexican food." I don't know WHAT it is, but if you can't get shredded pork burritos in a verde sauce, you're Mex cred is dubious.
