Chargerz
Just to let everyone know....if you call the Hilton and tell them you're part of the WCOFF draft you can get a reduced room rate. My wife and I are staying there for $115/night. I thought that was pretty reasonable. I just called again, and the Hilton reduced my WCOFF room rate to $95/night. That's probably as low as they will go.

Swiss Cheezhead
Our tickets are booked. Arriving Thursday night, leaving Sunday evening. I wanted to push it to Monday, but the wife can't afford another day off at work. Oh well -- 72 hours will have to be enough.

Swiss Cheezhead
so.........so far does it look like this? thurs: football and drinking friday: open sat: draft and huddle gathering at night sunday: football and drinking Sooo...I'm going to be in the air Thursday during the games (), but we really need to nail down times and locations for Friday night / Saturday night / Sunday morning festivities. Bier -- have you found out yet if Hofbrauhaus has mucho TV screens and Sunday Ticket? If it does, it should definitely be Sunday's gathering place. If not, it should be the Friday night joint. As for Saturday, I don't know if we're any closer to choosing a restaurant in the thread in the Food & Beverage forum. Twiley and BC mentioned the "Burger Bar" in that thread, and it sounds promising. Any other thoughts? Looking for a place with really good food, but also set up to handle a large group of dudes who mostly act like kids...and then start drinking. I believe he's coming in Friday and leaving Tuesday. just curious: is everyone on this list also drafting? i ask because, while this is my first year on a wcoff team, i'm not drafting. i thought i would for sure go, but my wife and i just got back from vegas a few days ago, and now i'm on the fence. however, with this many huddlers going ... RR, can you guarantee that whatever i spend on this trip, you'll help me win back at the craps table? I can help, but no guarantees. Remember I said that I subscribe to the old gambler's adage "I'd rather be lucky than good. Problem is I'm good!" To be truthful the last 2-3 years I have played minimal craps, as I try to use BJ winnings to play, and I wasn't doing well there either, although the last 2 trips i did win enough to pay my bills.. The last couple of attempts I made I went down in flames in less than a half hour. If you want me to be your craps biatcch, and you win big................well let's just say I'll pull a "Ginger" on you! (Ref:Casino, the movie?) All kidding aside, I'll help if you need it. +1, but maybe the blackjack table would be more RnR's forte. +2 That's where I spend 95% of my time. Single or double deck. No shoes, no perpetual dealing machines. $15 table until I can see how powerful the dealer is. I used to try to read the dealer's chip tray, but w/ everything on the computer, they rarely show anything anymore. Counting cards, forget it. They cut way too deep into the single and double deck game, your lucky to get 2 rounds in a single and 4 in a double w/ a full table. I do count aces and rough count on faces. Shoes are now 8 deck w/ a 2-3 deck cut. Too many cards eliminated to apply the old "Ben Mezric" or MIT strategy. But they still sell the books to the suckers. Not to mention the seminar rip-offs. Basic strategy, a little knowledge of what has played works well and will keep the house advantage to 1.5-1.75%. Yup, I still need my cheat sheet even though I have been playing for over 33 years. Old timers disease! Some of the tough hands still muddle me a little. If anyone wants a copy, just PM me your email. I'll send it to you. It's in Word format, and can be cut into 3 individual strips that fit nicely into your pocket or wallet. It's a little cryptic, but reads a lot easier than those cards you get at the shops. As it is categorized as: Soft hands Hard Hands Pairs It is a little aggressive, and a compilation of different strats, and it only works well on 1 or 2 deck games. I just recently tweaked it, and unless you can show me a mistake, I think it is sound. You can try it out on some on-line, no money games and see if you agree w/ it or not. Let me know. I have a thick skin. Lastly......I will be putting together a database (as I did in 2006) with everyone's info, such as arrival/departure, hotel, email addy, cell #, real name, etc. I'll get that rolling after August 10th! We'll do it via PM, I'll compile everything in Word, and distribute. But WAIT till I make it official after 8/10/2008! I don't want it now. The 'T' Shirt idea is great, Kid! DMD/WW consider this (no knee jerk reaction): Get 20-40 shirts made up. We can send our sizes before YOU place the order. Sell them to us at 'real cost'. Write off shipping on your taxes. The exposure should be worth a lot! Please consider, we can talk about this. I can call you. Can't wait to meet more Huddlers!

ETA: A burger bar doesn't scream really good food to me, it just tells me that everyone will find something to eat. As for the Thursday night game, a majority of us get in around noon. We will most likely hop around casinos until the game is on. RR will pass around the phone list so you can call us and we'll tell you where we are. Last year this worked out perfectly and we caused some serious mayhem afterwards. This is Vegas, having a plan never works and usually goes south once you get off the plane. Big Country
ETA: A burger bar doesn't scream really good food to me, it just tells me that everyone will find something to eat. It's run by a top chef. The meat choices are high end-- Kobe beef, etc. It's not some Chili's type burger joint... You're not likely getting out of there for less that a $15-$20 burger and that is if you go with the Choice beef and just the standard toppings and maybe a beer. It is truly one of the best burgers I have ever had. But, the place certainly is not designed to accomodate a large crowd.

Someone coordinate the quantity, sizes, etc. and I will place an order and have shipped to wherever they need to go. Someone could then get them screen printed. Would cost each of you $8.00 ($9.50 for 3X or 4X) that you could PayPal to me. I'm not sure what it will cost for a screen print or embroidery. I'm not going to get into a discussion with you regarding "burgers" being fine dining. I've been to the burger bar and it's exactly that - a burger bar. It's perfect for a medium sized group, all I was saying to Swiss was that it's not exactly up there with my definition of great food. If we get matching t-shirts, I can see something like happening. As for the burger bar... as much as I love burgers, I think we can find a better spot to have our "big dinner". But hey, if this is what we decide upon, I won't mind. And as for Thursday... I'm one of the ones that gets in early (see ya at the NASCAR bar, twiley!) and will be eight sheets to the wind by the time the games start. Would prefer we find a better spot than Toby Keith's place this time... so maybe we start scouting earlier in the day. And yes, "planning" in Vegas never really happens. I'm all for having a few fun events planned, but planning every single step just isn't gonna fly.

I agree with you. I enjoy it there. Definitely not what I would call fine dining, but it aint no Chili's or McDonald's type burger. I would not consider it an ideal location for a large group dinner. I'd like to eat at Mesa Grill in Caesar's.

And yes, "planning" in Vegas never really happens. I'm all for having a few fun events planned, but planning every single step just isn't gonna fly. Well, I guess we won't be doing any planning then. Seriously, I know it's early, and I'm not going to panic if we don't have a "plan" by next week. In fact, we had a blast back in '05, and I don't think any of us even knew beforehand who else was attending, much less where we were meeting up and when. The Friday night gathering, Saturday group dinner, and Sunday football festivities was all brought up before; I was just noticing that there really weren't any suggestions being floated (except for those by Bier in the other forum). And, as much fun as pure spontaneity can be, I also don't want to end up in a totally lame place that's completely unsuitable for large groups. I'm sure it'll all be figured out well in advance of the trip. Y'all have to remember something, though -- I'm coming with my wife, and we're staying with family. So, the sooner I have some sort of "plan," the lesser the chance of me being roped into some "family activities." Examples... Sept 7th, after zero planning: Swiss: Hey, honey. I just got a text from the boys. They're meeting up at <insert bar/casino name here> in a couple of hours, so I'm going to go jump in the shower. Swiss Miss: A couple of hours? You crazy? We're all going to the Olive Garden with your Dad and the boys. You can't spring this on me like this! Swiss: Sept 7th, after outlining the plan to her back in July/August: Swiss Miss: Hi, baby. You look really nice. Where are you going again? Swiss: I'm meeting the boys over at <insert bar/casino name here> in a couple of hours. Swiss Miss: Oh yeah...I remember you telling me about that. Have fun, and tell the boys I said hello. Swiss: Believe me -- this is how it works. I'm sure some of my married brethren can vouch.
