Phoenix Suns

As a Suns fan, I didn't have ANY expectations for them to do anything this year. Nash and Hill are getting older, Stoudemire cant stay healthy, Richardson cant stay out of trouble with the law, and they ran Shaq out of town..

But..

They're actually looking pretty good on defense as well as breaking 3 point records to start the season. They're 8-1, tied for the best record in the league with Boston - who they beat last week. Where the hell did Channing Frye come from? I thought this guy was garbage and was disappointed that this was really their only offseason aquisition - other than Earl Clark who they drafted. They just came back from a VERY impressive road trip beating Miami, Boston, Philly and Washington (and lost to Orlando). They looked dominant last night against Chris Paul and the Hornets, but that's not saying much as this isn't the same Hornets team that looked to challenge for the title a few years back.

Big game tonight against the Lakers in LA.

I pegged Channing Frye as a big time sleeper this season. He played both HS and college ball in Arizona and fits the Suns system pretty well.

I don't care how old Steve Nash is, that guy is a baller. Grant Hill is finally absolutely 100% healthy and is a savvy player. I think he's averaging more boards per game than he ever has. Stoudemire has had some kooky injuries but looks pretty good so far. J-Rich may do some stupid things off the court but they're not going to keep him off it, more than likely.

Shaq was a frickin' anchor in that offense. They're better off without him.

This team got leaps better by getting rid of Shaq. His plodding style just did not match the rest of his teammates. Now they are back to the same problems they had Pre-Shaq. They still aren't going to be able to get consistent stops against the best teams in the west. I thought they were close a couple years ago, but once they got rid of Marion, I don't think they have gotten back to that level. They're still faster than everybody else, but not as much so as a few years back.
