College football idea

1) If a poll makes a pre-season ranking, that poll cannot be used for BCS purposes. Published polls that don't start publishing their rankings until after four games have been played are eligible for use for BCS ranking purposes.

2) Start the season by playing seven conference games in whatever manner the conference decides is a good idea. No pre-conference out-of-conference games.

3) Rank all teams using the existing BCS formula as soon as week 7 games are done.

4) Beginning week 8, any team in the top 32 in the BCS ranking is exempted from their conference play (i.e., the teams in your conference not in the top 32 will play against each other; in the event of an odd number of teams in your conference not being in the top 32, then someone gets a bye week; this could be a scheduling nightmare), and teams in the top 32 BCS will be required to play the following team as follows where teams in the top 16 are "home":

BCS1 vs. BCS 32

BCS 2 vs. BCS 31

BCS 3 vs. BCS 30

BCS 4 vs. BCS 29

BCS 5 vs. BCS 28

BCS 6 vs. BCS 27

BCS 7 vs. BCS 26

BCS 8 vs. BCS 25

BCS 9 vs. BCS 24

BCS 10 vs. BCS 23

BCS 11 vs. BCS 22

BCS 12 vs. BCS 21

BCS 13 vs. BCS 20

BCS 14 vs. BCS 19

BCS 15 vs. BCS 18

BCS 16 vs. BCS 17

4) Rank all the teams before week 9 just like in week 8. The same schedule is played (BCS 1 vs. BCS 32) and if you're in the top 32 teams, your conference game is not played, just like in week 8. The only exception is that teams BCS 17-32 are "home".

5) Rank all the teams using the BCS formula for week 10 just like in weeks 8 and 9. For week 10, only the top 16 BCS teams play each other; all the rest play conference games. BCS teams 1-8 are "home".

BCS 1 vs. BCS 16

BCS 2 vs. BCS 15

BCS 3 vs. BCS 14

BCS 4 vs. BCS 13

BCS 5 vs. BCS 12

BCS 6 vs. BCS 11

BCS 7 vs. BCS 10

BCS 8 vs. BCS 9

6) Rank all the teams using the BCS formula for week 11 just like in weeks 8-10. For week 11, only the top 8 BCS teams play each other; all the rest play conference games. BCS teams 5-8 are "home".

BCS 1 vs. BCS 8

BCS 2 vs. BCS 7

BCS 3 vs. BCS 6

BCS 4 vs. BCS 5

7) Rank all the teams using the BCS formula for week 12 just like in weeks 8-11. For week 12, only the top 8 BCS teams play each other; all the rest play conference games. BCS teams 1-4 are "home".

BCS 1 vs. BCS 8

BCS 2 vs. BCS 7

BCS 3 vs. BCS 6

BCS 4 vs. BCS 5

8) Bowl games are played just like they are now where BCS 1 v BCS 2, then the next six BCS teams get slotted in the BCS "big time bowls".

It's still not a playoff, but each of the top teams has definately been put to the test over a five week period starting week 8. Alot of the "yeah, but they're from a lousy conference" crap would fade to black...plus, there'd be a ton of GREAT football those five weeks heading into the bowl games.

...just a thought...
