I think Dez first sucks. There's really a lot of competition for passes in that offense and WR rookies rarely make an impact. Must've been strong in a lot of areas to go that route (no pun intended)

I have been trying to trade for the 2nd pick in my dynasty draft for a while now and if I get it I will be leaning heavily toward taking Bryant who is my #1 overall player on my draft board right now and he will fall to me since Spiller is slated to go 1st in my league.

In 1998 did you think selecting Randy Moss first sucked too ? I mean he had a ton of competition in Minnesota that year. Cris Carter and Jake Reed. He did ok I think that year if I remember right. Something about 17 TD's and a little game on turkey day vs same said team Dallas that went a little something like this. 3-163-3 (all 50 plus yard TD's) oh and a 2 point conversion as well.

He also had a nice little career. Oh and even in year 13 in his career is still being drafted regularly in the 1st round in redraft leagues even now.

not that i agree or disagree with Loaf but you evidently missed where he said WR rookies RARELY make an impact.

I am surprised how high Bradford is going. Is this just a case of a really weak looking draft class or something else like maybe these leagues have more teams in them then my league? In my dynasty league QB's usually fall pretty far but maybe that is because we only have 10 teams in it ?

I got Palmer at 13, Rivers at 21 the years they came out.

Roeth went 19 and Rodgers went 24th when they came out.

Flacco went 29th.

Schaub went 42nd.

Kolb went 34th

Looking back at it now you say "DOH" at those picks especially Rodgers but remember how far Rodgers fell in the real draft.

Also when you take a guy like Rodgers your basically saying for 2-4 years your pick will be nothing and then after that you have to hope the guy won't be a bust so it could take up to 3-6 years to actually find out. Sometimes when drafting you just don't want to wait that long I think.

A Bradford will be close to starting right away but he plays for a terrible team so it might be 2-4 years before he is even a capable starting fantasy QB and that is if he doesn't bust.

I seen that. I was talking more long term then short term really. It just so happened Moss is in the same type of situation so it can happen being productive right away. I remember in redraft leagues that year I didn't even take Moss in the 2 other leagues I was in even though I had to have him in my dyansty league really bad. I even passed on moss in like rounds 9 and 10 in the redraft because you could never see that coming back then. Looking back on it now it still amazes me how much I liked him and had to have him in a dynasty league yet I still passed on him in the mid rounds of a redraft league.

Plenty of owners were less than inspired by the rookie class. I took 1 rookie and 5 vets. Pratts must have really thought it sucked, he let the timer pass him by 3 times.

I'm looking for Bradford to be an option 2-4 years down the road as Peyton is my dynasty QB.

Dan LeFevour in the 2nd round, before Tebow has me a bit perplexed...unless the drafter was a Christopher Walken fan or something...

"I got a LeFevour!"

Could be a huge Chippewa fan.

Why?

it appears, as these drafts get posted, that Monterio is climbing up the rounds. not sure why either but Harrison's not going to tote the rock as much as last season. James Davis is still here and seems folks are overlooking that. And Hillis.

But in rookie drafts, he's worth a shot. Not sure a top ten shot but again, I don't know dynasty dynamics.

2.04 20. Wolfie's Warriors Tebow, Tim DEN QB

2.05 21. Red Headed Stepchild Sanders, Emmanuel PIT WR

I like this start the 'best' (pun intended), except that McCluster was not in the first round. Best should have an instant impact and could have a good career coupled with Stafford. McCluster should have gone at 12 over Shipley and Gresham TE, he could be a good flex player for years to come in a PPR league, his skills are a coaches dream. You must be hurting at TE to take Gresham that early (and back to back Cincy draftees? over McCluster? burnk!)

So many of these players that look good now will become busts. If we just look back a few years in past drafts look at how many players seemed like perfect fits at the time or headed for stardom.

Look how many 1st round picks in a 12 man rookie draft have been complete busts or only had flashes at best.

Skip 2009 review not enough time passed yet.

2008 Review - some things can still change as only 2 years have passed but as of now here are the picks they went in my draft

1-McFadden (not off to a good start to his career)

3-Forte (great 1st year, bad 2nd year)

6-Kevin Smith (Team already drafted his replacement)

8-James Hardy (yet to do anything)

9-Devin Thomas (it is now or never ?)

12-Limas Sweed (Done ?)

2007

3-Lynch (future of Buffalo short lived)

4-Ginn (drafted too high in my league but OSU fan but still a huge bust)

6-Brandon Jackson (Another RB of the future never got off the ground)

8-D-Jarrett (yikes)

11-Chris Henry (Tenn) (another RB never got off the ground)

12-J-Hill (who ?)

2006

1-Bush

7-Leinart

8-Mike Bell

9-Si Moss

12-Chad Jackson

2005

2-Caddy Williams

3-Ced Benson (probably cut in your league before he became something)

4-JJ Arrington

5-Bry-Edwarsds (1 good year)

7-Troy Williamson

8-M-Clarrett

9-Mike Williams (fitting they went back to back)

10-Alex Smith

11-E-Shelton

12-Mark Clayton

2004

3-Kevin Jones (Det RB of the future once again a bust)

4-Roy Williams (1 good year ?)

5-Chris Perry (1 good run ?)

6-Reggie Williams (1 year of 10 TD's on like 38 catches)

7-Tatem Bell

8-Julies Jones (had 1/2 a good season)

9-M-Jenkins (made 1 heck of catch to help OSU stay unbeaten beating Purdue on 4th down)

10-Lee Evans

12-D-Henderson

2003

1-C-Rogers (where are they now ?)

4-O-Smith

6-Bryant Johnson

8-M-Smith

9-T-Calico

11-Pinner

12-Fargas

2002

Why do so many of you hold your dynasty drafts so soon ? It is only May you don't get to see training camp or pre season games of these players.

My dynasty league has always done the draft after about 2-3 preseason games.

1 bad thing about that is if you had a sleeper and they blow up in the preseason his draft stock goes way up and you never get him.

Still though it seems crazy to me to have the draft this soon. Wouldn't sometime in August seem better ?

Just curious why you have them so soon for your leagues ? May is very early.

1. To do something during the off-season

2. To draft before anyone can just copy internet cheatsheets. Do your own prep work.

3. It's the point of a dynasty league to do 1 and 2.

my league just finished its draft... we'll have our RFA auction in July and than roster reductions at the end of preseason. I could not imagine things any other way

I get it but we have never even thought of doing it that way.

We do the draft and FA acution at the same time, draft 1st then FA auction.

Some worry about injuries, retirements, ect being so soon.

If you still have an urge for a draft in August, that's what redrafts or contests are for. Dynasties are meant to be year round action. Hibernation periods are very short lived.

January = play-offs and Super Bowl

February = doing all the things you were supposed to do around the house. Grovel and swear you won't do the same thing again this season.

March = NFL combine, free agency hits, and first tradefest

April = NFL draft, pre and post draft rookie fever

May = fantasy draft, take your Mother or the Mother of your children out for their 1 day of the year.

June = realize your team isn't as good as it could be... second tradefest

July = wake up your redraft buddies from their hibernation, take the yearly vacation, remind DMD to start work on this year's material.

August = redraft drafts and big money contests

September thru December = send the kid(s) off to the first day of school, watch football, play fantasy football, possibly celebrate a few holidays with those strangers you call family.

Rinse and repeat

A Bradford will be close to starting right away but he plays for a terrible team so it might be 2-4 years before he is even a capable starting fantasy QB and that is if he doesn't bust.

 Come on, Muto... you're slipping. In your infinite fantasy football wisdom, surely you must remember the Chris Duo (Miller and Chandler) of the Falcons in the late 80's through the mid 90's. Those teams sucked donkey chode and their QBs were fantasy saviors.

Just because a QB is on a terrible team does not preclude them from being fantasy-relevant. There are plenty more examples that show this fact.

Now, with regards to Bradford in particular, he may struggle because he's a rookie and may have lackluster blocking up front. But the fact remains, he has one of the best pass-catching backs in the league and a pair of decent (albeit young) WRs. The Rams will struggle, but in a larger format, Bradford could be an option far sooner than 2-4 years.

You just answered you own question. Dynasty owners want to make their FF experience more similar to NFL management. NFL teams don't get to see whether their draft picks will pan out prior to OTAs, TC, or the preseason. Dynasty FFers want the same experience of scouting their players prior and drafting prior to the onset of the drafted players' careers.

It's a whole lot easier to draft after you've seen players up against NFL vets for a while. Some don't seem to be up to the challenge.
