Damn good football team but still the chances are that if they play in a somewhat competetive conference they are infinitely more likely to stub their toe at some point. What are their national title chances if they play in the SEC? We'll never know for sure, but my guess is that they wouldn't be very good. They could very well be among the leaders in a down Pac-10, but as long as they play 7-8 cupcakes every single year, while other teams are playing 3-4 at most, they don't deserve any respect. Yay, they can win a big game or two every year. Most teams have to do that almost every single week. They flat out don't deserve to be in any national championship competition. If they don't like it, go play in a real conference.

I know you admittedly don't watch a ton of college football- but the Pac 10 is as strong and deep this year as it has ever been, not sure where you are coming from with this comment......they just had a segment on ESPN comparing the Pac 10 and SEC as the 2 best conferences thus far. When

AND this

"This is the first time since the Pac-10’s inception in 1959 (formerly called AAWU) that the conference has had four 4-0 teams ranked this highly in the AP poll at this point in the season. Oregon, Stanford, Arizona and USC are all 4-0 and ranked among the top 18 teams in the poll"

and fwiw - Nevada vs Boise St. should be a good one!

Actually, I watch tons of college football, especially the Pac-10. There is no way that the teams are close to the level that they were on last year. They just lost so many good offensive players. USC isn't as good, OSU isn't as good, Stanford looks very good but lost Gerhart, and I think when the other shoe drops, we'll find out that Oregon isn't as good either. While the next tier teams might be a little bit better, making the conference deeper, the top-end just isn't as elite as some years. Arizona is better, UCLA is better, ASU might be a bit better than we thought as well. Deeper conference, but all of the elite teams lost major talent. Stanford, Oregon and/or Arizona might end up being elite, but I think they all still have to answer some questions first. That said, combining what appears to be maybe the best team Boise State has ever had with the top-end of the Pac-10 being in a little bit of flux, you can create a scenario where it might have been their year. Most years, Boise would probably be a 2nd-4th place team in the Pac-10, especially when you had a monster like USC winning at least ten games every year. That monster just isn't there this year, unless you think it is Stanford or Oregon.

Nevada? Ummmm, well, no.

well, you are wrong.

The conference is MUCH stronger this year than last year and it really isn't even close

as much as I like Boise - they are dropping at least 2 games in Pac 10 play, no question.

Let us make this a little simplified for you.....

Oregon lost their star QB

OSU lost their star QB

USC lost their star RBs, DE, T, Safety and coach

Stanford lost one of the top RBs in conference history

UW has not improved as many thought

But the conference is considerably better. Yeah.

i know ur kinda slow..... please re-read my post above

Oregon - the young QB is AHEAD of Masoli as a frosh and is an absolute stud - yes, they are better

ur talking nonsense - and about 1 player per team?? cmon man - seriously?

UCLA, a mid-level team goes on the road and dominates Texas.....

UA knocks off a top 10 Iowa

OSU - will probably finish strong and end up in the top 25

Oregon - flat out nasty and will be in the BCS discussion til the end of the year

Stanford- has all the makings of a BCS bowl team

CAL - took a step back so far, time will tell

UCLA - wow, could do some damage after 2 top 25 wins

ASU - should have beaten Wisky on the road - and has talent galore-

UW - took a step back, but if UW is your #9 - you are looking pretty strong

WSU - brutal

cmon dude- the coaches, experts are wrong and the bitter Seachickens 21 is right?

why is the Pac 10 firmly #2 conference right now, and in the debate with the SEC as the best??

Is this an attempt at comedy? Just stop already.

Namecalling and attempting to belittle doesn't make people think any of the garbage you spew is correct, FYI.

After half an hour, I literally have not found a single place that has the Pac-10 in the top two. Yep, everybody CLEARLY disagrees with Seachickens21. Dude, you say the Pac-10 is the best ever in every sport, every year. I love the Pac-10, but they were so good last year, there is just no way that after they lose most of the biggest stars in the conference that they can be better. I need to stop arguing with the delusional.

Not that I care, because a debate about conference supremacy on October 1st is silly, but

http://www.kiva.net/~jsagarin/sports/cfsend.htm

has Pac 10 #2 currently.

Once again, it doesn't matter at this point in the year. Last year we heard about how the Big Ten was awful and the top of the conference all performed extraordinary well at the end of the year.

My thoughts at this point are the SEC, Big 12, Pac 10, and Big Ten are all really strong at the top of the conference. Pretty much the entire SEC West is outstanding. The Big 12 took a hit last week with Texas getting destroyed at home by a UCLA team that the jury is still out on. Pac 10 has Stanford, Arizona, and Oregon. All solid football teams that are capable of beating anyone. Big Ten has Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, and a sneaky Michigan State team that I'm personally worried about. Michigan is also a question mark, as you know they are extremely talented, but their coach is an a$$hole so you never really know there. Bottom line is this year is one of the deeper college football seasons in a while. A lot of excellent football teams.

couldn't agree more- last year the Big 10 had a perceived weak showing in the reg. season and a great showing in the bowls.......Pac 10 just the opposite, got crushed in the bowls. Plenty of good teams out there, and I put the Big 10 3rd as of today. Didn't really want to start another conference debate - I just thought it was a pretty common consensus that the Pac 10 has had a nice showing so far,,,,,,,,,coaches, analysts, radio talking heads and the polls all agree....... moving on

tough L for Iowa - UA and the crowd put them in a big hole with some huge plays and then damn near had a meltdown in the 4th qtr- which as A UA fan, I am used to......if UA can get it's running game squared away that O will start clicking, they almost kicked the Cal game.

really looking forward to Stan/Oregon Sat night - although I think Oregon pulls away in the 2nd half - 45-28 type game.

Not to geek out too much, but I have a little handicapping/power ranking formula/tool that I use to gauge teams with. I have the Pac-10 #2 behind the SEC in conference rankings, fairly significantly ahead of the Big 10 and Big 12. Considering most of the non-conference games have been played, those numbers aren't going to change much as the season progresses (if past experience doing this stuff tells me anything).

FWIW, Stanford and Oregon are my #1 and #2 teams right now.

i think, personally, sec is #1, pac10/big10 could be swapped either way at #2/#3, and #4 is the big 12 in my opinion.

I WILL say, Sagarin ratings aren't totally dependable IMO. His formulas are something else. Va tech is #15 in his rankings. Just saying.

Big 12 is weak; the north is extremely weak IMO. K State is toughing out some solid wins, but will end up losing to the South as usual; Missouri the same (I think atleast), and Nebraska, while we're very good, will still face very tough tests in their South opponents. To me, as much as I love being a homer of my own conference, big 12 is significantly below the other 3 majors. Who's the big 12's best? Oklahoma? Nebraska?

Just out of curiosity how did this morph into who is the best conference thread when it started out about blue field and blue uni's.

dude, thats what the college forum always does. it starts as one thing, and a couple pages into it it's a 'who's the best conference' argument. It's awesome.

Since the blue field, blue unis were brought back up...

I thought the same thing regarding the contrast or lack thereof when watching last weekend but then realized that the game is not played from the perspective of the cameras.
