BearBroncos
He's on the team and playing thanks to Shanahan's pathological desire to be proven right. I agreed to everything until I got to this. I think there is a more than good enough chance that a few other teams would have been more than willing to give him a try and they might have even kept him on their roster. Ryan Torain has an amazing talent for reading the tackles hense Shanny was so high on him and it showed before the ACL injury. But, I also agree with you in that his injury history has to be a concern. But sometimes it's a run of bad luck and the player may never see another major injury in their career while there are those others that they are nothing more then a glass player. We only hope that Torain is just the player who had bad luck and learned from past injuries and runs differently (without losing their talent) but that's all a guess until we really see them in a crash em up situation. As far as I can tell Torain was invited to the Skins mini-camp then almost immediately signed. Prior to mini-camp the only other team that had even a scheduled visit was St. Louis. Torain also cleared waivers after being dropped by the Skins earlier this month so yet another instance of the entire league taking a pass. Like I said, I think Torain has/had the goods but his presence and role is more of a statement of Shanahan's megalomania combined with Williams' relative inexperience. Jimmy_22
So, as a Portis owner, is it time to jump ship and pickup Torian in his place? And yes, I was one of those owners last year that bought into the hype and put him on my bench around week 5 - only to be shut down with the injury. JUMbotron
I don't know if it's pro-Torain as much as anybody-else-but-Portis. Read this insanity.

And yes, I was one of those owners last year that bought into the hype and put him on my bench around week 5 - only to be shut down with the injury. I picked up Keiland Willams last week and thought I got a waiver wire sleeper 'steal', only to see Torain get the carries. Having had Torain in the past, not yet ready to cut Williams for Torain, as still remains to be seen. Perhaps Shanny gave Torain a decent amount of carries as Williams is a rookie, and will bring him in this week....with Shanny, NO ONE knows... all i do know is if i cut Williams to get Torain, Williams gets 8 carries for 50 plus yards this week! theeohiostate
Source ROTOWORLD Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Clinton Portis (wrist) will start Sunday's game at Philadelphia.NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora continues to hear, however, that Portis is moving toward a role as a passing-down specialist with Ryan Torain getting "more and more" of the carries. Torain must be owned in all leagues while Portis can't be trusted as more than a flex play going forward. Keiland Williams isn't worth a roster spot with Portis assuming the third-down role. The Portis era in Washington is coming to and end and Shanny ball begins..........look for Torain to surplant Portis as the feature back very soon. theeohiostate
Rotoworld Clinton Portis said his wrist injury had nothing to do with his reduced playing time against the Rams last week.Portis played just 24 of 54 snaps in Week 3 and barely sniffed the field in the second half. "It ain't nothing to clarify; it was the game plan, bro," Portis said Thursday. The Redskins have been doling out practice reps the same as last week, so it looks like Portis will start against the Eagles. We expect Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams to be mixed in plenty. Take this earlier quote from Portis yesterday, and it's making more sense that Shanny has game planned him right out of the feature back role. Jimmy_22
I just dropped Portis and added Torain. Mainly because of potential, and Portis having a lingering wrist injury that will not get better with playing time.

chinatown dragons
.....i'm sure Portis is NOT about to fall off the cliff........... ........-get Torain, while you can - i know everyone is high ont the Torain train (similar to a couple of seasons ago when he was in Denver), and yes, he has potential...but HOW many NFL games has he actually played in the past few seasons, and what are his stats? Thru 2009 season: 15 attempts, 69 yards, 1 TD 2010: 7 attempts, 46 yards the potential may be there, but IF Portis goes down, you cant tell me that Shanny isn't going to use both Torain and Williams? and not like the Skins O Line is tremendous.... buyers beware, is all i'm saying...hope Torain makes me eat my words.... theeohiostate
buyers beware, is all i'm saying...hope Torain makes me eat my words.... No risk here, nothing to buy. He's simply a waiver wire pick up that could surprise. With buy weeks on the horizon , there may not be a better option then Torain.

Better be ready to play russian Roulette with the Redskins backs. The 7 carries for 46 yds seems nice but one of them was a very long run with a hole that my fat arz could have gained huge yardage on. Bottom line is that you just don't know from week to week who will be the man. And Lord help you if you fumble the ball, you may not see the field for weeks. Scooby's Hubby
Torain has potential for some large numbers this week. Shanahan was peeved that they had to go away from the run against St Lious and thought that if they had been able to stay with the run, they might have been able to pull it off near the end. He also stated that Torain will be the 1st and 2nd down back and Philly is kind of weak against the run. Something to ponder for peeps impacted by week 1 byes or injuries. if they could have run against the St. Louis Rams in the first place, then maybe they would not have had to abandon the run in the 2nd place No Trent Williams (Longview TX, :cough cough:) hurts. Really though, if you get a bunch of yards passing when coming from behind b/c your run game blows, then is your passing game really as good as those numbers portray? What is the difference between McNabb and Plummer? How long until Shanny spends a high draft pick on a QB?

joeyb7
I'd grab him as quickly as possible.... injury prone players don't get hurt every year and Shanny loves the guy. I think he'll forget about Portis in a hurry if Torain produces.
