The NFL Network is reporting that Moss has been waived by the Vikings a day after the wide receiver gave a rambling statement following a loss to the Patriots. Childress attempted to downplay Moss' comments in his news conference this afternoon but clearly he had seen enough after the wide receiver played four games for the Vikings.

Moss, obtained from the Patriots in early October for a third-round pick in 2011, had only one catch for 8 yards on Sunday and had 13 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns since joining the Vikings.

The end of Moss' second tenure with the Vikings came after Sunday's 28-18 loss at New England.

Moss, who was fined $25,000 last week for failing to cooperate with the media, informed everyone that he would no longer take questions for the rest of the season but instead would ask himself questions and then answer them. Moss then proceeded to praise the Patriots, while criticizing the Vikings for not listening to the tips he gave them about his former team. Moss also took a shot at Childress for not kicking a field goal at the end of the first half and instead going for it on fourth down at the New England 1-yard line. Adrian Peterson lost 2 yards.

Childress disagreed with Moss' assertion that he had not heeded the advice the veteran gave about how New England would approach things. “I think we did a pretty good job of heeding it, both offensively and defensively," Childress said. "He gave us some windows into how we thought they would end up playing. That’s obviously in his eyes.”

Childress, though, attempted to downplay there were any troubles with Moss when in fact he had set the wheels in motion to get rid of him.

“Do I find [the comments] incendiary?" he said. "I just think he was going back to a spot that he has a lot of affection for and I thought by and large those comments were regarding the people there, the coach there, the ownership there and obviously there’s a fondness in his heart for those guys on that football team. Hey, you’d like to go out there and beat their tails off, nothing he would like better, but at the same time he enjoyed his stay there.”

Even if this is an unsubstantiated rumor - this organization (Vikings) are a complete and utter Penny Laneing embarrassment.

You need to listen to the press conference that Moss gave yesterday. Apparently Chilly didn't appreciate it.

Well, he was 100% accurate. Childress is single-handedly ruining the Vikings. I would take Wade Phillips over him in a heart beat.

Also, wouldn't the pats be on the bottom of the waiver list. So he would have to clear every team before he came back here.

Indianapolis is hurting at WR's but I doubt Polian would sign Randy. San Diego also has several WR's injured but they have Vjax coming back.

St. Louis as a city doesn't handle malcontents very well, as a city we seem to want all "character guys." That said, it would be really fun to watch Sam have a warm body to throw to.

Yep. In this instance, he'll still need to clear waivers.

Issue is this - does anyone want to waste their time claiming him when it's so clear that he wants to go back and play in NE? This'll be great drama over the next few days.

Nah, he'll be a great role model for East St.Louis.

Great news for Moss owners making a FF playoff run. Farve is done and Moss wasn't getting a lot of action anyways. I would like to see him go to a team like the Rams who will force feed the ball to him

No picks would be involved, but would need to pay their portion of his salary.

Well, before Favres great year last year, CHildress was nearly out the door. I think this only seals his fate.

So much for the Moss owners who escaped the bye week with the brilliant timing of the treade

Yeah, I was gonna say the one who is most bummed by this is Tarvaris Jackson.

he could probably help a team that is on the cusp, who's system he is familiar with, who currently has a shortfall at WR, who has a strong-armed QB that could just heave it to him, who has a history of taking troubled athletes and getting the most from them.

Why would anyone want this guy at this point??? Hes a quiter and a cry baby. He quit in Oakland. He pouted his way out of NE and was becoming pretty much non-factor on the field while doing it and now he has quit on Minnesota. People want to talk about T.O. being a team cancer but at least he plays his butt off on the field no matter what his situation is. The same cant be said for this guy.

I think he should go to Cincinnati ... I mean surely if they add ANOTHER aging high profile WR it will carry them to the SB.

Then we can have Larry, Moe and Curly instead of Batman and Robin
