NBA lockout began Thursday

Well, several factors at play here; first, the fact that the country's most popular sport - by a country mile - is also in a lockout state, and has been for 100+ days with little wiggle room left, time-wise. Next, things tend to get done closer to the eleventh hour by nature, and despite the NBA union and its owners literally being in a state of negotiations for the past year and a half, they're nowhere near a deal. And third/last, it really looks bad for the NBA. The vast majority of their teams are losing money by the bucketload, and true NBA fans realize this and are strapping down for a potential non-season. Personally, I think they'll get a deal done but may have a shortened season, as they did a few years back. Contraction is also quite possible, with other major changes also a potentiality.

Completely agree. Apparently Rashard Lewis "earns" $20 million a year, which has to be the definition of insane when Kobe Bryant gets $24 million. The economics of the NBA are totally in the crapper with 24 of the 30 teams losing money, some at an alarming rate.
