Tford
The plan all offseason for Ryans seemed to be that he would be a 3 down player for the Eagles. However, after a disastrous preseason for him, many Eagles insiders have it that Jamar Chaney and Mychal Kendricks will be the team's nickel LB pair. If this is true, I can't see how Ryans survives past this year. This year is the cheapest of his 6 year $48MM deal at $4.5MM. He is due to make $6.6MM next year and $6.8MM each year for the final two years. His fantasy value takes a huge hit this year as well. Kris N
who is the dime LB...chaney or kendricks? just wondering which one would be a better FA pickup
Tford
I probably pick up Kendricks for the potential for him to slide into the middle if Ryans gets hurt or is ineffective. In the Preseason, both Ryan and Kendricks were at dime LB at times but no official word on who will make it a full time job.
Tford
In today's game, Ryans and Kendricks were the exclusive nickle LBs with the exception of a few substitutions/breathers. However, it is worth noting that Jamar Chaney did not play much at all. Instead, Akeem Jordan played Will for the Eagles for most of the day. Brian Rolle played a few dime LB snaps. Even though 5 solos isn't a star performance, Ryans looked good today. He got in the backfield on a multiple occasions to both disrupt the offense and make tackles for loss. He also played solid pass coverage as well. With his solid performance today and how the Eagles' LB situation is shaping up, DeMeco may have secured a 3 down role after all. Mychal Kendricks is the real deal and is already the best coverage LB that the Eagles have. He is fast sideline to sideline and knows how to tackle. The Browns didn't offer up a ton of opportunity today and Kendricks still posted 4-1. I think he is the only Eagles LB to own past Ryans.
