detlef
FWIW, we were 51 and 52 on the list. At least that's what they told me. I've been to two of those, Arzak and Manresa.

detlef
Are they as good as advertised? Depends. You need to be into super modern food. Though I thought both did a fine job of incorporating the new high-end food science into things that actually resembled food. I don't know what Manresa is supposed to cost, because I sort of know the chef/owner and was eating with someone who knows him really well. I forgot what we paid for the 30+ course meal we had, but I'm rather certain it would usually cost more. I went to Arzak solo for lunch because, once my wife found out how much it was going to cost (150 E per person), she said she was going to go buy a pair of really nice boots instead and meet me after. But both were certainly lovely. I will say this, especially with regard to Arzak, as good as it was, I enjoyed the tapas at Cuchara de San Telmo that we had later that day, innovative and delicious, and we probably spent 50 E for the both of us there. It's one of those things.

You want to go to San Sebastien, Spain. Sure, hit Arzak while your there (or Akalare which many think is actually better but I could only go to one and figured I'd go with the iconic one). Thing is, when you're not eating at Arzak, you'll be literally tripping over delicious food. Seriously, you'd have to make a point of trying to find a nasty plate of food in that town in order to do so. It's also a visually beautiful city. A beach town on a bay with an island in the middle of the bay and an ancient moutain fort overlooking it. You're also just about an hours drive to Bilbao and the Guggenheim there, which is an amazing museum. Bilbao is also a pretty cool city that apparently has a cool food scene (though we were there on a Sunday and most of the places were closed).
