frenzal rhomb
Never had a migraine in my life until yesterday - sitting at my computer working and I couldnt see what I was looking at - could read the peripheral stuff but blind down the middle - scary a s s 20 minutes. Anyone else experience these things. Turned 43 in May and just had a physical so assuming I'm ok otherwise
Ditkaless Wonders
I would not presume anything when it comes to my eyesight. Doesn't macular degeneration start similarly to what you have described? Isn't it treatable when caught early?

SEC=UGA
If it happens again, take your thumb and apply about 20 LBS of pressure to the corner of your eye while pushing at about a 30 degree angle into your eye socket.

keggerz
macular degeneration is not cureable correct, my mother has macular degeneration, has had it since she was a teen...is legally blind (20/500 or something liket that)...funny thing(not really funny) is that when we were kids she would still drive to the grocery store and I can still remember times when she would ask us what color the light was...she doesn't drive anymore, thankfully...and luckily was never involved in an accident...back then I think her vision was something like 20/250 or 300. Egret
I suffer from cluster headaches. I also get more traditional migraines from time to time. While it's been almost a year since I've had a cluster cycle, I get a migraine a couple of times a month. Any change in headache severity or manner can be cause for concern. If it is a migraine, your doc can give you some abortive medications that can help stop a migraine was it occurs. I don't leave home without mine. Ditkaless Wonders
macular degeneration is not cureable That is my understanding, though I thought it was treatable, significantly slowing the progression. I note right now that I have now knowledge in this subject matter, just vague impressions.

Hey rhippens, scroll up to see a little envelope in the top right corner. They'll be a little, red, numbered flag poking out of the envelope, which means you have unread PMs, can you give those bad boys a once over and hit me up with a response. Thanks bud. Egret
What do you take? My gf takes relpax and maxalt. Maxalt, indocin and oxygen at 20lpm as abortives. There are lots of things to take as preventatives as well. I've been through a few. I go to a very good specialist clinic twice a year. That's kept me mostly sane. I get them here and there, and while I am not sure on the angle or pressure, pressing my palm into the socket does give a good deal of relief. It started about 2 weeks ago. It comes bi-yearly. I'm on verapamil 120mg 1/day and have sumatriptan. I started an 18 day prednisone treatment yesterday because it had intensified to the point that I can't function at all when it peaks. Saturday and Sunday episodes lasted 2-3 hours. My 2 past cycles were about 8 weeks. I'm hoping to shorten this by starting the steroids sooner. I've read a few blogs where the prednisone has shortened cycles for other sufferers. I feel for anyone that has to deal with this pain.

Brentastic
I tried a variety of migraine meds, but since mine come from an accident that shifted the C1 vertebrae, I'm not sure those meds should've worked anyways. For a really bad migraine, I'll take 6 ibuprofen, 5 valerian root, and 2 dramamine. If I catch it in time, 2 ibuprofen and 4 valerian root seem to work. I experimented with lots of combinations of lots of drugs... I too was shocked that valerian worked. Regardless of what I take, icing seems to help. GIve valerian a try. I'll have to take note of your remedy. I don't know if I technically get migraines but I get some nasty headaches. The best solution I've found (never tried prescribed meds) is some Excederin migraine, icing followed by an extremely hot shower where I put my head under the extreme hot water. My friend who is now a nurse practitioner says the hot shower opens up your capillaries. This method works 1/2 the time if I catch it in time. Other times it milds a headache but doesn't completely rid. I still have to take it easy most of the day. Anyways, if you can tolerate a frozen bag of peas on your head until your head is so numb you don't feel the pain of the cold - that will usually solve the trick. Problem with the pure icing method is that the process (at least in my experience) basically accelerates the headache so not only does the cold ice cause some discomfort, but your headache worsens until it peaks and goes away. Either way, I'll try the valerian root. Is this in a pill form? Edited July 31, 2012 by Brentastic
Brentastic
Yup, over the counter, in drug and grocery stores. Some people open the pills and make a tea. Good to know. I'm excited about trying it. C'mon... headache So I'm assuming the valerian root is an herbal supplement and that I can't really OD on it? Like I take 8 instead of 4 for instance.
