Olympics, anyone?

Here's what I've learned from the Olympics so far:

1 - Ryan Lochte, don't like him, same for Michael Phelps. First, Lochte... Really, a chrome grill? If yer gonna have a chrome grill, don't giv up a length and a half in the final leg of the 4X100 relay, especially not to the French. BTW, Lochte, nice shoe closet, fag.

Phelps, from what I understand, didn't follow the same training regiment that he had before previous Olympics which could explain his lackluster performance so far. They should have given that spot to someone who cares enough to put in the time, even if they're slower.

2 - Cycling is boring until the final 2 Km. Good , god, on Saturday I sat there and watched as some Belgian dude was in the lead for what, 40 Km, a minute + ahead of the rest of the pack. I think he finished around 90th. The guys that won, well the were oh around 15th through the bulk of the race.

It was arduous to watch and moved at a glacial pace.

But, the last 3 minutes is thrilling. (I watched the wimmen on Sunday and had the same sense of, holy christ, hurry up and finish already...)

3 - There should be no crying in gymnastics. Jordyn, you lost it all on yer own... Suck it up and move on. Other girl that beat Jordyn (I hate the way she spells "Jordyn" and her mom looked like she needs to be medicated) you won, quit yer crying.

That being said, the wimmen's gymnastics team looks strong. Best of luck to them.

4 - The chinese and N. Koreans have found a new type of performance enhancing drug that can not be detected. I point to this:

A - 15 YO chinese girl swam the last lap in the 4X100 free in like 28.6 seconds, faster than Lochte swam his by like .3 seconds. Read that again, Chinese GIRL... ummmm.... ok. Drug test her, oh wait, never mind you won't find the drugs because they're something you've ever seen before.

B - N. Korean weight lifter, 123 LB dude, just cleaned 370 some odd pounds... I would say that this is the guy in N. Korea that is eating, but he only weighs a buck 23.

5 - I love wimmen's beach volleyball.

I love wimmen's indoor volleyball.

I love men's indoor volleyball. If that makes me ghey... Guilty as charged.

6 - What the fu(k, no coverage of synchronized diving. Pissed off.

7 - Cobie, LeBron, Carmello, meh, who cares...

8 - Wimmen swimmers need implants. They also need to be cuter. Can't wait to see if that 16 YO breast stroker form lithuania, I believe, wins her race today.

9 - Rowing is awesome.

10 - The British team needs to get their team some dental work. Especially that poor gymnast who's buck teeth have no chance of being covered by her lips. It's like her lips keep fighting the good fight but the teeth just keep winning. Seriously, she could gnaw a corn cob through a key hole.

11 - Stop already with Ryan Seacrest. Just stop!!!! I'd rather have them bring back that Carillo woman/man.

12 - John McEnroe is funny.

13 - Did I mention that Ryan Lochte is a punk ass bitch?

14 - The opening ceremony SUCKED!!!! I know no one will ever outdo the Chinese on the opening ceremony, but c'mon, Britain just kinda rolled over and played French on this one.

15 - My wife wants my body to look like that of the male swimmers. Great, I'm gonna have to start working out and have surgery that will make me grow 6 inches.

I want my wife to have the body of some of the gymnasts. Yeah, I shouldn't have said that to her, had to fight the dog for the couch last night and I'm probably not getting laid until the Rio Olympics. Especially considering the fact that she added this to her ranting: "They're fu(king 16 YO you pervert!" Perspective is a bitch.

16 - Why, god, oh why do they keep breaking away from volleyball, to swimming; gymnastics to swimming; Rowing to swimming.... But I get all four hours, uninterrupted, of a cycling event?

17 - I'm glad the Olympics are back. Love it!!!!

Dude, sounds like you're the one person watching more than I am.

Even as a cyclist, I'm not a fan of one day races because, by and large, they're pretty silly. In many cases, it's just a big group riding around for several hours and then leaving it up to the sprint specialists to decide it.

Just be thankful that the breakaway survived and thus, didn't render the first 5+ hours 100% meaningless. Had the main field brought them back, the Austrailan, German, and British teams would have simply escorted their sprint specialists to the front (as the best 3 come from those countries) and the medal would have simply been decided by who could out-kick the last 20 meters after chilling out in the main field for the first 150 miles.

As it was, there was some cool drama. The dude who won was nearly 40 years old and was in his last race. And he certainly pulled an okey-doke on the kid who broke away with him to take gold. Nice to see the cagey vet school the kid.

But, I agree. Unless it's a mountain stage in the tour, you pretty much just need to catch the last 15 or so minutes.

Lochte choked last night. The other 3 had him in position to close it and he got his tits lit. The guy that swam the first leg was awesome.

My youngest daughter has really been in to it so I have watched a lot of events with her. It has been enjoyable so far

My daughter, 3, who has been taking swimming lessons, informed my wife and me last night, while watching on of the swimming events, "That's how I swim..."

Little did I know how much progress she had made during the last set of lessons...

1. The Today Show crew makes me itch in funny places. I may need a shot to cure it.

2. The Olympics, the only 2 weeks every four year that you'll catch me watching any of this stuff. I love it.

3. My wife and I enjoy the Olympics so much, that we got this bad boy.

a. The basement project is just about complete after some serious water issues. Been 2 years since I used the basement for recreation.

4. Opening ceremony was good enough, but the drums just made me want for Bejing.

a. So tired of Beckham. After five minutes.

b. The queen jumping out of the helicopter was neither funny nor entertaining. I think the royals jumped the shark.

c. Forging of the rings was the best part.

5. There should be no crying in gymnastics for missing the individual cut. You knew the rules, Jordyn.

To me, for the most part, the Olympics transcend popular sports. Many of the backstories are amazing, the devotion that many of these athletes have to a sport from which most will receive little to no compensation when compared to the athletes in more popular, revenue generating sports.

I'm just amazed at how much work some of these people will put in, the sacrifices that they will make, to go and represent their country and literally be forgotten, for the most part, 3 to 6 months after the Olympics end.

SEC,

One thing I found is I love DVRing the Oympics. That long (6 hour worth) cycling on Saturday, I watched bits and pieces and zipped through the rest at light speed. Good finish, but seriously did we need to see the whole race? Same goes for lots of other events. (Rowing, uggh I'd rather watch synchronized knitting.)

I'll be back with some more observations, later, but one thing I found (well I knew this already) is I really enjoy watching volleyball, having played quite a bit (beach and indoor) when I was younger. Mind you I was never really that good, but I did enjoy playing and understand the game pretty well. Of course womens (particularly beech) is better. Gymastics, it was one of my mom's favorites so I used to watch quite a bit. Does it really make us perverts because we like watching the young girls doing those amazing things?

SEC Good point about the athletes and how the Olympics transcends popular sports. And those atheletes who are forgotten 3-6 months from now, those are the ones that win. Think about those that merely compete with no real chance to win a medal. But theyt work and train just as hard. To them just the experience of being an Olympian is very special.

PS There was coverage of synchronized diving Sunday morning/afternoon (the longe 11 hour block on NBC). I zipped thorugh most of that, not into diving in general and all this synchronized stuff is kind of ghey (NTTAWWT). Yeah, like Lochte's shoe collection, yikes ;)

5 - I love wimmen's beach volleyball.

I love wimmen's indoor volleyball.

I'm with ya here. V-ball is pretty fun to watch as I think the sport moves fast enough to keep my interest.

+1 No homo.

I even like the sand volleyball. If for no other reason than I know how f-ing hard it is to make some of those saves into a passable ball and then have to get up from the ground in time to attempt a spike.

I think the rally scoring makes it much easier to watch. I've got a lot of friends back home who were really competitive and bitched when they changed up the scoring (used to only be able to score on your serve), but games would take forever that way.

I don't like let serves being counted as good though. That seems completely lame because it almost always ends up being a lucky ace for the server.

I don't like the new scoring or the let service being in play. But, I'm more of a traditionalist.

I was able to watch the first two sets of US v. Brazil wimmens... US won the first two (actually was leading the second when I left) and looked to be on a roll.

I watched US versus China in table tennis yesterday evening...unreal...was like watching Neo in the Matrix

I only saw a few minutes, and the table looked about half the size of what I remember playing on as a kid. Its wild for sure.

I like some of the events like volleyball and swimming, but when it comes to archery, fencing, badminton, and some of the other minor sports, I'm yawn: .

And what's up with only allowing 2 from each country making the cut in gymnastics? There have been a number of times in the Olympics where a country has swept the podium in other sports, so why prevent it by rule? Apparantly what's her face was top 5 but 3rd among the US, and that's why she didn't make it.

Its a flawed system, but everybody knows that going in. I hated the puff piece with Kostas and Bela Kyroli (sp?) where he was so upset about the system and how the poor US girl (Jordyn) missed out. Well those are the breaks, but it isn't like tihs was some sudden change in how things work, or a surprise to the athletes when it happens. (Like Donovan McNabb not knowing games could end in a tie.) I feel bad for her, and think the system could be improved, but acting like this girl was robbed of something is just another typical US whining when things don't go our way. (Were there complaints by the same folks when athletes from another country had this happen?

Watched the US-Brazil women's indoor volleyball match, what a great contest by some great athletes. And those Brazilian woman actually had breasts, so it must be something in the genes. (Most female volleyball players I knew growing up were pretty flat, but still very attractive in other wys.) Also watched the May-Traynor women's beach volleyball match, they're having a tough time but I think they'll still be in contention for gold.
