SayItAintSoJoe
So the built in camera and mic on my 4 month old HP laptop just stopped working out of the blue. After spending an hour on the phone with HP support and trying everything that they could think of the lady gives me my final option to “fix” the issue: full system restore. Yep, I would return the laptop to the state that it was in when I pulled it out of the box. I would have to reinstall all my programs and files. I tell her that I’ll have to think about it and end the call. Not even five minutes later she calls back telling me that she has just learned that there is an “ALERT” out regarding my laptop and the camera issue. The problem is not software related but with the camera itself. Therefore Full System Restore wouldn’t help anyways. The only way to fix is to send in the laptop so that they could replace the camera. This process takes 2 weeks. I ask her if they could just sent me the camera and I’ll replace it myself or have someone do it here locally. Nope, no dice. I have to send it in. I told her that I can’t be without my laptop for two weeks so forget it. After searching the web I came across a YouTube video. The video basically shows someone opening up the screen and pushing the camera card up into the slot. I thought I'd give it a shot. Who knows? Maybe HP didn’t want to send me a new camera because they aren’t really replacing the old one anyways but are instead just pushing it up into the slot themselves. Bastards! Sure enough success!!!! It took all of five minutes to fix following the instructions on the video. Edited August 24, 2012 by SayItAintSoJoe
