Azazello1313
this is for democrats, mostly. hit the link and read the PDF. I found it to be pretty compelling, even if I don't quite share the writers' doe-eyed view of government spending on research, infrastructure, etc. I like those things to some extent, but I also see them as huge opportunities and invitations to croneyism, inefficiency and political shenanigans. nevertheless, I think that optimism about all the things government can accomplish in these areas is in many ways a foundational idea in American progressivism. and spending in those areas is getting slowly and surely pushed aside by the rising costs of entitlements, pensions, and the like. this tension -- between the welfare state and the "new frontier" investment society -- is a reality that simply can't be ignored any longer. something to consider, as we are understandably hearing precious little about the hard choices facing the country, and in particular those facing the democratic party as it tries to figure out what it stands for (I say understandably, because a convention rallying around a threatened encumbent is not an environment conducive to party soul-searching).
