Hugh B Tool
Here I come. Will be there from Sun. the 30th through Wed the 3rd. Need suggestions for good grub and grog. And a good place to watch MNF. If any Huddlers want to have a beer or three that would be hugh. Thinking of going to Stubb's Tuesday for my B-Day as I love his sauces and dry rubs. Worth the time? Scooby
a fun city---this coming from an Aggie:) maybe also try Salt Lick: http://www.saltlickbbq.com/ or if you have a time for a road trip about 45 minutes away in lockhart, tx for the best ever bbq IMO: http://www.smittysmarket.com/ there are 3 bbq joints in this small town all in competition for top TX bbq--Smitty's, Kreuz, and Black's...my big family taste test awards Smitty's the winner...but they are all good:) Have fun!! p.s. darin and bears can give you better info than I can for Austin

Salt Lick is very good but you have to wait for ever to get in. Smitty's is insanely good. You can just eat there until you explode. Wonderful. ETA: Anywhere around 6th Street is good for booze and tons of restaurants. Edited September 29, 2012 by Ursa Majoris
Seattle LawDawg
Uchi and Uchiko are two of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Fantastic, creative food.
ABearWithFurniture
Salt Lick is good, but there is plenty of other BBQ around. Definitely go to Stubbs if you get the chance as it's better IMHO. Plenty of sports bars around and there's a very good one down on 6th street right in the middle of the main drag. You could also check out the game at the Oasis...food is okay but the view is incredible, especially around sunset which today should be a good one. You can also check out the MNF game there as well in one of the bars. I'd join you but just got hit by a drunk driver over the weekend and my truck is in the shop. Hugh B Tool
Thanks all, am actually out in the hill country around Horseshoe Bay. Freakin gorgeous around here. Ate at the Bluebonnet Cafe this morning, good place for sure. The pies are absolutely amazing. Going to the River City Grill tonight and into Austin proper tomorrow day and night, to end up at Stubbs. The weather has been real decent. golf good and I can't believe for the life of me what you can get for the price here as far as houses. Golf course living for a third or less of what it would cost in Seattle. Not to mention the food and gas prices in comparison. Coming back down in spring to check things out seriously. NEVER thought of moving to Tejas until I came to these parts. Oh and I love the heat so me thinks summers will be fine. Sorry to hear about your accident Bear. Maybe next time down. I'm just a bit bummed D3 didn't want to meet up. I might have even let him punch me in the throat! Off to watch the game and drink copious amounts of hugh margaritas! geeteebee
There is better bbq than stubbs. If I only had 1 meal in Austin I'd make it Franklins or Mueller's.

That being said I've been dying to get down to try Franklins since getting hooked on BBQ PItmasters for a couple of weeks this summer. It's worth the road trip. Sort of like the Alamo of BBQ Joints.
ABearWithFurniture
There is better bbq than stubbs. Well yeah, but Stubbs is still pretty damn good...I like it better than a few of the other highly tainted joints around here.

polksalet
I've been to both and obviously you have never been to Lockhart... I've been to one in Lockhart and it was very good, BUT not on the level of the holy smoke IMO. The most misunderestimated place IMO in Texas is Daddy Sam's in Carthage. It used to place well in Texas Monthly contest each year but it's so far from population centers no one knows about it. If you're a true BBQ fanatic you have to go there. ABearWithFurniture
I went to college at Sammy H. for years...very familiar with it and definitely very good. Lot's of great BBQ all around this state with quite a few of the mom n pop stores making some of the best!
