Furd
What's the angle with the four weeks or whatever of the pink accessories? To your knowledge, has anyone wrote a check or volunteered or whatever after taking a gander at the St. Louis gay caballeros (with their striking pink sashes) or the like? Wouldn't it be better if the NFL just donated all of the $$$ that they spend on that gear? I'm giving respect to the players who are bucking the trend. That even includes that backward baseball cap wearing buffoon, Tony Romo. Bronco Billy
Awareness = $$$$ Tough Enough to Wear Pink bull riding always gets very good support and strong donations at the local rodeo, FWIW. Good cause, awfully hard to knock...
keggerz
The NFL auctions a ton of that stuff off which raises money http://www.nflauction.nfl.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/User?id=BCA_NFL&wl=65664914&type=A

matt770
It's been going on for a while obviously, but for some reason last night they looked especially ridiculous. Maybe it was the contrast with the dark unis.
Azazello1313
good cause? maybe so but it's overkill. are they going to do it for what seems like half the season like they did last year? good grief, couldn't they just do one week. I guess the thing about it that bugs me a little bit is that there are a lot of other kinds of cancer out there that don't receive nearly the amount of funding or attention. prostate cancer is the easy one to bring up, because it impacts about as many men as breast cancer affects women and receives zero attention. but lung cancer kills like 5 times as many people as breast cancer, and receives a fraction of the funding (especially on a per death basis). I've brought this up before and been flamed for being insensitive about breast cancer, but when the vast majority of your audience are male, then it makes more sense for them to raise awareness about prostate cancer that disproportinately affects mroe of their audience. Not that there's anything wrong with breast cancer awareness, but it seems to be more pandering to a demographics they're trying to gain, over what's the greatest good for the greatest number of their audience. Puddy
I've met Furd and doubt he has black friends... However, on topic...cardiovascular disease is the number on killer of women...by far. Breast cancer is much better in the PR department and kudos to them for it but maybe more awareness on the heart? Maybe the argument is we pretty much kill ourselves by lifestyle while breast cancer is bad luck?

Beat me to it. While I applaud any efforts to battle any cancer, the disproportionate amount of attention breast cancer gets is ridiculous to the point of offensive. This should simply be "Cancer Awareness Month" and it'll be a cold day in hell when Susan G Kormen/etc get a nickel from me. I'll help the others instead. Chavez
What, exactly, is "awareness" anyway? Tell me you're doing something for breast (or any) cancer RESEARCH and ACCESS TO TREATMENT, and I'll drop some $$$$. Tell me you're doing something for cancer awareness, and you'll get me asking "who the F*CK is not AWARE of cancer?"
lennykravitz2004
So they are expecting women to watch more football in October because there are pink accessories? Have you not seen the emotion attached to this subject women have? The league is making this an emotional issue which works at women's feelings. "The NFL is a great promoter for women." "The NFL cares about women too." All underlying messages. They don't need to market to the "typical" male NFL demographic. Don't get me wrong, but like others have said, why not lung cancer, diabetes,... I just don't think it's an accident that the NFL chose to do this. And good for them for backing a very worthwhile charity. It's no less of a noble cause, even if the reason for doing so may not be as true as we're led to believe. Of all things mentioned here, my Mom has been diabetic for 40 years and recently had a lobe removed from a lung (and never smoked a day in her life). Tripleshot
Seems this has quite a few of you with your panties in a bunch. Maybe it's so noticeable because it's pink. Maybe the NFL does already promote other types of cancer awareness and charities but these don't have the super identifiable pink promotional spin. Yes, breast cancer gets much more attention than other types of cancer and heart disease, etc., but it's absolutely inane to say breast cancer gets too much attention rather than to simply say other cancers don't have(and need) organizations that do as good a job with public awareness as breast cancer does.

Atlas
Tell me you're doing something for breast (or any) cancer RESEARCH and ACCESS TO TREATMENT, and I'll drop some $$$$. Maybe I'm a bit bias as I am in the health field, but when someone asks for a donation to cure cancer, I respond by asking what we're doing to prevent cancer (i.e cigs, bad food, etc). Why are we spending millions of dollars trying to cure something that we allow the cigarette companies (and others) to foster? If you keep backing out over a nail in the driveway, should you spend the money by continually fixing the tire, or pay someone to remove the nail?
Hugh B Tool
I fall on the side of Az here. We get to shave our faces and grow porn mustaches in Nov for Prostate awareness. If I happen to die from Prostate cancer, I want my Huddle bruddas and sisters to start the Hugh B Tool Prostate Foundation and build it to rival the Komens. You could do a 3 day walk/ ride with teams in black and red stopping in at bars to watch games and eat burgers during breaks. with all proceeds going to early detection
keggerz
So "we" are going to rip the NFL and the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign because they(BC) are doing what they can to get as much exposure as possible for their organization/cause by creating a partnership with an organization(NFL) that has a massive following...do I think that other organizations deserve more exposure? Sure I do, but don't blame the Susan G. Komen Organization because some other cause/organization hasn't been as good at PR(Puddy nailed it) as they have been. Then again, maybe I am biased since my MIL, who after having been BC free for 10 years just had to have mastectomy surgery...and I lost my grandmother to lung cancer but I sure as hel1 am not mad at the NFL for not having a lung cancer month...the American Cancer Society is my charity of choice, but I never ran a promotion with them when I owned my business...but the Susan G. Komen organization approached me for an event and I helped with their cause. If you guys want prostate cancer, lung cancer or whatever to get more exposure may I suggest you get involved with that organization and do what you can to get them to be more proactive in getting added exposure for their cause.
