matmoe3
He looked down to me. However, Lions got screwed over on the run off rule.

kdko
Yeah, I thought it was clear from the replay that he was down. That run off rule is weird though.

michaelredd9
I bet the run off rule will be changed this offseason. A team getting royally screwed will usually lead to change.

Right up until Brady rushes the team to the line, and with 1 second left and clearly no chance for them to get the snap off a replay miraculously gets called for. Clock stops, Brady and BB get a free time out, and they win the game on the next play. Either way someone's getting "screwed". The NFL chooses not to give teams a freebie timeout. Had there been no replay and it was called correctly no way the Lions get that play off. That's what the rule does.
MTSuper7
The Lions got screwed. Period. Tate doesn't complete the process of the catch until he is in the end zone. Seems like a double standard to say he was down short of the goal line when they don't even consider the catch complete until possession is proven through the process. That call would have never been reversed if it was a major market team instead of the Lions. Guaranteed.

I fail to see how somebody is getting screwed by the current rule, not having the rule and having the clock stopped to save time when it shouldn't would be screwing the other team. The rule is in place specifically to prevent the extra timeout. Even some Lions fans I've discussed it with understand that.

It probably does take a minimum of 10 seconds for the ref to place the ball and for everything to get set. So as long as Detroit could have called a timeout if they had one, they didn't get screwed. It's a good rule.

Mag112
Tate really just needed to start to reach out his arm with the ball toward goalline instead of tucking it into his chest. It might have been close enough. Edited September 26, 2017 by Mag112
