Eli Manning benched

John Mara's view

Sounds like McAdoo/Reese had the full support of ownership, and they weren't there to tell Eli because they were at an owner's meeting.

Webb is not ready, he's 3rd string and those guys don't work with the first team. So the thinking is they should have put Webb in as 2nd string and therefore Eli's backup a few weeks ago, so he could get more reps with 1/2 team?

I only read the article, did not listen the rantings of A-hole Smith.

Where will Giants' Eli Manning play in 2018? | Vegas sets odds

Posted November 29, 2017 at 09:00 AM | Updated November 29, 2017 at 04:20 PM
Here’s a look at the latest Vegas odds on Manning’s 2018 destination. These numbers were provided to NJ Advance Media by MyTopSportsBook.com.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 3/1

Why it makes sense: Tom Coughlin’s presence. Blake Bortles’ inability to lead this team to the promise land. If Manning wants to win another Super Bowl, this feels like the best fit.

Why it doesn’t: Too good to be true? The fit almost makes too much sense.

New York Giants: 4/1

Why it makes sense: Manning is still under contract to the Giants, so the team holds his rights. If a new front office and coach come in, the relationship could be saved.

Why it doesn’t: It’s hard to imagine the relationship being repaired after the way the Giants treated the best quarterback in their history.

Denver Broncos: 4/1

Why it makes sense: Despite a 3-8 record, the Broncos have enough pieces to rebound quickly. John Elway should be desperate for a competent quarterback. Can replicate what Peyton Manning did in Denver.

Why it doesn’t: Although Denver’s fall isn’t dire, there are more issues than just quarterback—starting with bad coaching. This franchise could fall soon.

New York Jets: 9/1

Why it makes sense: Close to home. Manning wouldn’t have to move or uproot his family and children to keep playing. Plus, the Jets have shown a spark this season with some young, rising players.

Why it doesn’t: The awkwardness would be present if Manning played for the other New York team.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 39/1

Why it makes sense: Ben Roethlisberger has talked about retirement. If Manning’s 2004 classmate walks away, a ready-made Super Bowl contender would need a quarterback.

Why it doesn’t: Roethlisberger probably isn’t going anywhere.

Houston Texans: 44/1

Why it makes sense: If the Texans had good quarterback play, they could win the Super Bowl. Signing Manning would allow the franchise to let Deshaun Watson recover from a torn ACL at his pace.

Why it doesn’t: In effect, Manning would be signing up to be benched again. This team belongs to Watson when he’s healthy.

Los Angeles Chargers: 44/1

Why it makes sense: Similar to the Steelers situation. If Philip Rivers gets tired of the commute from San Diego to Los Angeles and retires, a solid team would be in need of a veteran quarterback.

Why it doesn’t: Has Manning changed his thoughts on playing for this franchise after the 2004 NFL Draft debacle?

Arizona Cardinals: 54/1

Why it makes sense: Arizona doesn’t strike me as a team that wants to fully rebuild. With Carson Palmer possibly done, Bruce Arians can try to resurrect another veteran in the desert.

Why it doesn’t: Arians, the quarterback guru Manning would likely be paired with, may be on his own road to retirement.

Detroit Lions: 59/1

Why it makes sense: If Manning can’t find a starting job, there’s clearly a market for a backup with tremendous experience.

Why it doesn’t: If Manning went the backup route, sitting behind the highest-paid quarterback ever in Matthew Stafford probably isn’t the best play.

Los Angeles Rams: 59/1

Why it makes sense: Jared Goff is still learning. Manning could help develop one of the league’s best young quarterbacks.

Why it doesn’t: Sitting behind a young, emerging star like Goff would put Manning on the Kurt Warner track—meaning he’d need to jump to yet another team to find a third chance.

Green Bay Packers: 69/1

Why it makes sense: Aaron Rodgers *could* be a free agent after the season.

Why it doesn’t: There’s no way the Packers actually let the best quarterback on the planet leave, right?

Washington Redskins: 69/1

Why it makes sense: Kirk Cousins always seems to have one fit out the door. The chance to play the Giants twice next season would be fascinating.

Why it doesn’t: It’s hard to imagine Manning inside the NFC East.

Buffalo Bills: 74/1

Why it makes sense: As we saw in Week 12, the Bills just need competent quarterback play to compete.

Why it doesn’t: This organization always feels dysfunctional.

Baltimore Ravens: 79/1

Why it makes sense: Manning is an upgrade from Joe Flacco right now.

Why it doesn’t: It would cost Baltimore too much to get out of Flacco’s deal in 2018.

New Orleans Saints: 79/1

Why it makes sense: Drew Brees can be a free agent after the season. If New Orleans actually losses the all-time great after a winning year, Manning going home is perfect.

Why it doesn’t: The Saints simply can’t let Brees walk.

Miami Dolphins: 89/1

Why it makes sense: Head coach Adam Gase (if he survives this mess) will be desperate to win in 2018. Manning gives him a better chance that what’s there now.

Why it doesn’t: Eli on South Beach just doesn’t fit.

Wow those are a lot of options that all sound unlikely.  Hopefully they took into account him having a no-trade clause, he could veto any of these options (forcing the Giants to keep or cut him).

so hard to speculate what will front office and/or Eli do.

Wishful thinking on getting an answer this season.

I hope he moves on to JAX or DEN try and finish with another ring and retire.  It will not happen at NYG.  Eli is definitely a gamer and I think would want to go somewhere to compete, especially with how he was treated by ownership, front office, HC.

I think Buffalo should be way higher on that list. Like just behind NYJ. Is the weather that much worse in buffalo than NJ?

Buffalo is a very poorly run franchise and Eli is way too savvy. Buffalo has no shot at a ring, whereas JAX is literally a competent QB away from owning their division.

I think Denver is a longer shot - that team is trending very poorly.

umm, i agree about JAX. I don't think i said otherwise?

I'm a DEN fan, if I had to choose between DEN and BUF, I'd take BUF. They are poorly run, and yet, doing just fine. If Eli went there, he'd have a lot to contribute and might help in that regard.

You said BUF should be right behind NYJ as his options. No mention of JAX in that post. I agree with Stelhant, BUF is not a well run franchise.

As for your weather question, yes winter weather in BUF is way worse than the NYC area. Tons of lake effect snow, cold winds blowing off the lake, etc.

Horrible way to treat Eli. Although the Giants are our nemesis and I don't particularly like Eli at all, to bench him and kill his streak just to throw him out there one week later is so wrong. They guy has given everything to the Giants and fans. Two Superbowl wins against the best QB and Coach in the land. Never seems to do or say anything wrong on or off the field. Yet the idiots in New York decide to bench him after 210 starts. Horrible way to handle that situation. Now if he gets hurt they will never live it down.

Now they plan to start him again against Dallas. Watch, he'll come out and have one of his throw it up and somehow, someway, some no named receiver will come down with it all game long ending our playoff hopes along the way. The Giants celebrate the firing of their inept head coach by deciding to play hard in NY for once. Sure would feel better about this game with Smith or Webb playing. Eli has a knack for closing his eyes and heaving the ball down field that ends up dropping perfectly into the arms of a wide open receiver or bounces around hands and helmets only to end up in the hands of a Giants player.

Ahhh, hell it won't matter anyway. The line is a mess and our pass rush should end any hopes of a Giant victory. Stranger things have happened but I think the Giants are playing for a high draft pick. The higher the better. Then again, they could give one more effort against their hated rival before packing it in for the rest of the season.

We'll see but Dallas had better be ready to play because this Giant team may be fired up now that MCcadoo doo is gone and Eli is most likely playing his last few games as a Giant. Too bad as he has earned the right to go out on his terms and that definitely wasn't getting benched for Geno Smith.

I really don't know how he is going to find a way to get up to play after the way they handled him. I'd just want to hold a clip board and have my agent looking for a new place to play. I damn sure wouldn't stand in there and take hits like he has his entire career to make plays for a team that treated me so poorly.

As far as to where he ends up, I suspect it will be with a team that has a good line and a QB away from playoff contention. I could see the Broncos topping the list for the obvious reasons. The Skins could use a QB and a division rival to boot.

i would love that as a DEN fan, but our OL is a much bigger problem than Trevor Siemian. Eli won't help our team if he's constantly punished.

Youll be surprised how well a line can play when they have someone they believe in under center. They would have an off-season to get a line together that could get the job done. With their defense they could really do well with a QB that can make plays.
