Yeah the talent/production was there, just that thinking of a class that includes 3 POFSs with no class whatsoever including an accomplice to murder.........well that's the NFL for ya

If it was all based solely on "class", Marvin wouldn't be in either.  The criticism is fair for Lewis cause ya murder and all, but of the 3 HoF wideouts (Moss, Owens, Harrison) Marvin is probably the most controversial off the field of the group.  So the criticism of Moss and Owens (cause I really can't assume its Dawkins or Urlacher) comes off a little smug.

Let's review here. Owens beyached and moaned about not getting in.

He finally got in and decided not to go to the induction ceremony.

Another plea for attention?

And Owens is wondering why he wasn't a first ballot HOF'r. And bitching and whining that it took this long (3yrs lol) to get in. Well....he just answered his own question.

Countdown until NFL films does a reboot of "A Football Life - Terrell Owens" crying and expressing regret and remorse for not attending the ceremony.

Just a question for anyone-has any other player declined their invitation to be at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony??

I don't recall if this has ever happened before.

It is unprecedented:  http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000936209/article/terrell-owens-declines-to-attend-hof-enshrinement

Plenty of great players, including some WR, had to wait far more than the 2 years that Owens did. I believe a player becomes eligible 5 years after retirement, Art Monk was eligible in 2001, waited 7 years before being inducted in 2008.  Many guys go for years as a finalist, waiting and waiting for their turn. Just a few recent inductees with 5 or more times as a finalist (WRs in bold), quite a few great players there, none who turned down HOF invite

2018 - John Lynch(5), Jerry Kramer(11)

2016 - Kevin Greene(5)

2015 - Charles Haley (6), Tim Brown (6)

2014 - Ray Guy (8), Andre Reed(8), Claude Humphries(5)

2013 - Cris Carter(6)

2011 - Richard Dent(7)

2010 - Russ Grimm(5)

2009 - Derrick Thomas(5)

Just back from the festivities and a great weekend in Canton - first time there.

Blown away by Brian Dawkins raw emotion all weekend long, culminated by an incredible speech.  Also really loved Urlacher's speech and his love and passion for his family, teammates and friends.  All of the inductees that we're present (can't speak for TO) made Sat night a very memorable one.  Loved how Randy spoke about all of his teams and his time there.  Was interesting to see that Kraft and Belichick showed up (but remained backstage) and how much Randy said that he valued he and Bill's relationship.

Of course Ray preached and although many have their thoughts on him as a person, and his character (as posted in this thread), he belongs in the HOF and he is a great ambassador of the game to past, current and future players.

There are many great old school players yet to make it.

I'm not understanding the reasoning why not get caught up to date or at least to withing the last 5 years.

Then either you make it or you don't.  Why the suspense?  If they are good enough to make it, but not be on a ballot for a few years, what is the point?

The Power flexing that many of the voters (sport reporters, beat writers, etc...I'm not sure who exactly gets a vote every year).  Silly, much of this drama can be nipped at the bud.
