Hmm, his 2016 with Saints was pretty good, on par with the rest of his career. Then last year he missed some games, didn't get a single start (first year in his career) and was not targeted much (3 times per game vs 5-6 in prior years).

 

He'll find another team who needs TE help.

Every coach or general manager says "I like the guys we have here" no matter how dire the situation.  It is coachspeak.  It would be impossible to have confidence in 4 tight ends who have 9 career receptions between them.  It is very rare for a tight end to go directly from a nonentity to legitimate.  But their options are limited.  Witten left them in the lurch by retiring after the top free agents had already signed.
