Bills trade for WR Corey Coleman from Browns

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/377751/bills-trade-for-wr-corey-coleman-from-browns?ls=roto:BUF:topheadlines

Bills acquired WR Corey Coleman from the Browns in exchange for an undisclosed pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

It's the second major deal between these two franchises since Tyrod Taylor was sent packing to Cleveland back in March. Coleman is just two seasons removed from being selected No. 15 overall but has missed 13 of a possible 32 games to a pair of broken hands. His presence should immediately slide second-year receiver Zay Jones down Buffalo's depth chart and eat into what was supposed to be sheer volume for Kelvin Benjamin. This move also creates an immediate scenario for Dez Bryant to sign with the Browns. Standout rookie Antonio Callaway is expected to make noise as the team's No. 3 receiver barring any addition.

Nine straight Browns first-round picks gone before playing out rookie deals

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/06/nine-straight-browns-first-round-picks-gone-before-playing-out-rookie-deals/

From 2011, when the NFL adopted a new rookie salary structure that meant every first-round pick got a four-year contract with a fifth-year option, not a single Browns first-round pick has made it to the fifth-year option season.

The Browns’ nine draft picks from 2011 through 2016 lasted an average of 2.3 seasons in Cleveland. Here’s a review of those nine players:

2016: Corey Coleman lasted two years before the Browns traded him.

2015: Danny Shelton lasted three years before the Browns traded him.

2015: Cam Erving lasted two years before the Browns traded him.

2014: Justin Gilbert lasted two years before the Browns traded him.

2014: Johnny Manziel lasted two years before the Browns released him.

2013: Barkevious Mingo lasted three years before the Browns traded him.

2012: Trent Richardson lasted one year before the Browns traded him.

2012: Brandon Weeden lasted two years before the Browns released him.

2011: Phil Taylor lasted four years before the Browns released him.

Addition by subtraction, the guys that were not drafted by Dorsey, which are not contributing properly are being sent packing instead of eating into the limited reps for guys they feel fit better.

I'm all in with Dorsey, our first GM hire that came with experience and success, if he cannot turn things around we're doomed to be a 4-12 team (at best) forever.

Talking about who they COULD or SHOULD have drafted instead is pointless at this time.

Also this may open a large hole at WR that Dez could fill, that isn't happening, he isn't interested and the Browns are not going to throw a ton of money at him. Hopefully Gordon comes back, if not its Landry, Callaway and Higgins as the top 3. Maybe Janis can do something too.

Official depth chart for Thursday's pre-season game with the Giants, which still lists Coleman as a starter.

And the day after Coleman is traded, Calloway gets busted for pot.

Seriously, did somebody put a curse on the Browns?

Calloway should claim that Josh Gordon planted the pot under the seat.  Baker Mayfield is teaching them how to run from the police.  However, the police showed a better 40 time than Mayfield, so maybe that's not such a good idea.  Meanwhile, Coleman is laughing his arse off.

Typical answer.. "Ain't mine officer". Yeah that'll work.

Even if it wasn't his, if you had lent the car to friends, and you KNOW they smoke Josh Gordon (since you've done it with them), clear the car of contraband before driving it.

He also claims he thought he took care of his suspended license. Of course you could confirm that for sure, but why bother. (Some BS claim now that he changed banks when returning to Ohio from Florida). But he didn't tell the Browns about it either, if he had done that I don't think it alters the plan to trade Coleman, but I doubt they trot Callaway out to the media on Monday as the new starting WR if they knew about it.

This incident alone is 3 strikes, add in the numerous bad marks from college and failed drug test at the combine, and this guy is the next Josh Gordon, maybe worse. They might cut him, with the lack of WR talent on this team I would not be surprised to see him given more chances.

I feel like a massive injury to a key player is next, this team is screwed....

Read some more stories yesterday, including one that had detailed text like a transcript from a review of the dash cam video

From what I've heard (somebody who listened to an interview he gave) Callaway thinks it was ok to drive in Ohio because his attorney was dealing with the suspended license in Florida, and he didn't think that mattered in Ohio :"I don't know the laws in Ohio". Apparently he doesn't comprehend simple words and concepts like his Florida license is what allows him to drive LEGALLY anywhere in the US, not just Florida and that it being suspended means it is ILLEGAL to drive. Talk about not too smart...

Oh and then there was some kind of strap for a glock and rounds of ammo in the center console, the first thing the cop saw while searching the car, with the driver standing out of site, so he asks "is there a glock in here", Callaway explains it is in Florida "you won't find a gun there". The cops asks if he minds if he pats him down quick to be sure.

Callaway seemed cooperative, and a bit surprised at the pot, and may be telling the truth that it wasn't his, that he hasn't been smoking in the car. He's worried its going to be a big deal and asks the cop "nope just a misdemeanor, the suspended license is actually a bigger deal";

His attorney got the trial postponed to Aug 23, the morning of their game 3 against the Eagles in CLE. He will travel with the team today, and apparently play against the Giants tomorrow. Browns won't take any action until after "we learn more" or more likely the court proceeding.

You can bet he's being tested soon, and better be clean.

the bills trading for, then releasing, coleman mean they are on the hook for his salary/cap hit
