Bell was franchised and Earl was on the last year of a guaranteed contract that he agreed to.  Big difference between the 2 situations IMO.

But similarities too with both holding out of camp to save their bodies for their next big contract, very likely to be with another team.

Maybe the players can actually get some decent representation and, I don't know, negotiate a better deal with the owners or something?

NFL players have all the info they need to realize they're getting screwed. All the head trauma and resulting illnesses with relatively little compensation when compared to the owners. They shoulder all the risk - shouldn't be too hard to realize it's time for more reward.

I don't agree with Earl Thomas' display but I do agree with the sentiment.

Back on thread - no chance Lev Bell shows up before week 10. I can't see how a trade happens either. The Steelers will have totally imploded by then and it'll be their own fault.

Gotta agree with the above, when the average career is 3 years and something like 2 million in total salary, the average player isnt thinking about the top 1% of players... they are thinking about how to get more for the majority...

I would think more guaranteed contracts like baseball hockey and basketball should be on the top of the union want list (not to mention a higher cap)

The Le'Veon Bell drama hit a high note on Sunday night as the Steelersstumbled through an ugly home loss against the Ravens in prime time, just a few hours after Earl Thomas, another notable holdout, suffered a season-ending injury. It was hard not to see why Bell was staying away.

But he won't be away for much longer: according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Bell is planning to return to the Steelers in Week 7 to report for duty.

Additionally, Fowler reports that Bell "definitely plans to play football for the Steelers this season."

Will the Steelers be willing to take him back? Bell has been holding out for the entire season thus far, watching the Steelers offense struggle badly without him on offense. He made it clear he had no intention of rolling back into town any time soon.

The team let it be widely known over the last few weeks that they are willing to deal the running back, who was given the franchise tag for the second straight year by the Steelers this offseason. The Eagles are a sleeper for his services

seriously.

either report week one and get all the money or wait. His agent is really screwing this up.

It is odd he's reporting before he needed to, maybe he's hoping for an easy return, a week to prepare during the bye, and then an easy game with the Browns to shake off the rust?

As far as who is screwing things up, Bell hired the agent and ultimately makes the decision. He may be getting bad advice, its not the first time (agents care about their cut, so the next big contract is what is important)

So he wants to return and be savior for a PIT team that is probably going to be below .500, they're last in their division now at 1-2-1 (worse div rec than CLE) and their next 2 are ATL and @CIN, doubt they win both of those, could lose them both and be 1-4-1

might be a dumb question but why not add some sort of injury clause to contract(s). e.g., if player get's hurt, his yearly salary would increase (double?). maybe combine with a performance hurdle, so if player is outperforming his metrics and gets hurt, the injury settlement would be more. just a thought.

I love how people are bashing Bell. Did people forget the Emmitt Smith holdout?

That was different. He was the best RB of all time. So, he deserved more.

Think your homer is showing.  :shades:

Just don't try to mention that other great RB's name could get you banned, if it isn't a bad word filter.

No doubt Emmitt is way better than Bell, don't recall him ever missing games being suspended etc.
