Joe Mixon to be limited

Mark Walton isn't a bad start if you are desperate at running back.

Joe Mixon won't be 'fully unleashed' Sunday?

Coach Marvin Lewis reportedly "doesn't expect to fully unleash" Joe Mixon in Week 5 against the Dolphins.

Lewis reportedly noted there were limits for Mixon due to his conditioning taking a hit during the rehab process. Without backup Giovani Bernard (knee) Sunday, fourth-round rookie Mark Walton could shoulder a few more snaps than initially expected. "I think that was a little shock to [Walton's] system. Since he’s gotten an opportunity to suit up and play he’s really taken advantage," Lewis said. "We have a comfort level with him." Mixon will still undoubtedly out-carry Walton as he did with Bernard behind him in Week 1. Confidently consider him an RB2 against the Fins.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports Joe Mixon isn't expected to have an every-down role in Week 5 against the Dolphins.

This backs up comments from Marvin Lewis earlier in the week. Mixon doesn't look ready for a full workload after sitting the last two games. This is different from Week 3 when Lewis promised to get Mark Walton involved, as Mixon is coming off surgery and not in great conditioning. Mixon will still see the bulk of carries, but he comes with some Week 5 risk.

i wouldnt expect mixon to have 30 touches or anything....but even 15-20 total makes him a good start if theres a few catches in there.......this "conditioning" thing seems weird.....i mean...yeah he probably hasnt been running alot the last couple of weeks...but its not like he missed camp.....he can ride an exercise bike and do other stuff to keep up his stamina without putting pressure on his knee....they make it sound like mixon literally just got cleared for action for the first time since the summer

is that code for something? Is HC hedging or soemthing?

not really sure...but to me it seems odd that hes putting this out there....mixon is not in the injury report at all....they make it seem like hes literally been out of "football shape" all summer the way hes talking or with this "report".....like he literally hasnt been practicing and actually playing....hes missed a couple of games.....yeah he hasnt had 20 touches a game the last couple of weeks...but plenty of backs miss a couple of weeks and come back to a healthy role right?

  • Thanks 1
