Gourdeau
Why would they let Haley go already ? Do they not understand the need for stability? My guess is Baker and Todd not seeing eye to eye. Can see their two personalities clashing, not the way you want to start with a rook
jamesplante11
According to the Cleveland Browns radio show, they believe this is a move by Dorsey made to show everyone in the organization that dysfunction will not be tolerated, and they refused to choose sides between Haley and Jackson Joe Thomas said that what may have seemed like a slight disagreement in the media between the two, was most likely a major issue behind the scenes in the organization. Gourdeau
Would it be insane to consider contacting Peyton Manning about OC job or at least bring him into the mix to work him up to that position? I have no idea what it takes for an ex player to turn coach.. I get that not all players make good coaches but there is just something a out how manning completely took over that Indy offense and then the de her offense.. the way he acted on the sidelines always around his receivers and lineman getting ready for the next series. Absolute sherrif. I think he would be incredible for a young QB Edited October 29, 2018 by Gourdeau

I think he would be incredible for a young QB Interesting idea - it is usually wrong to judge someone by what you see in the media but I do wonder about a Peyton Manning and a Baker Mayfield being oil-and-water. Having said that, Mayfield could really use some mentoring, tutoring and direction. Doubt he gets that with the way the Browns are currently structured. BeeR
Finally. When they fired their previous GM and kept the bumbling Jackson it was baffling, yet many (including most if not all of the sports show talking head retards) acted like that made sense. Total addition by subtraction. Rich Kotite could've done better. Les Steckel even. Hell bring on Rod Dowhower.

stevegrab
How is Kitchens going to cook on offense? And who is going to develop Baker? Zampeze, the old Hue sidekick? Won't matter much, not seeing many chances for wins on the schedule based on the play on the field. Unless the D can start converting the turnovers directly into TDs, the offense cannot do much. I wouldn’t put it past the team to win a handful of games from here foreword. Williams said in his press conference that the offense absolutely smacked the defense around in competition practice yesterday. As for Mayfield’s development, Kitchens was a QB for Alabama, He was a TE coach for Jason Witten, He was the QB coach for Carson Palmer, RB coach for David Johnson. So don’t discard Kitchens yet. Here’s a Dawgs By Nature blurb about him “So, first off this will be Kitchens’ first stint as an offensive coordinator. However, he has constructed an NFL coaching career that has spanned into his 12th season coupled with seven years as a college offensive coach. He did call all the plays against Detroit in the Browns’ fourth preseason game in which 35 points were scored. Kitchens has also been on the staff with numerous coaches who have found success and have been hired as head coaches. Arians was known for his offensive prowess and developed QB Peyton Manning. The 2018 season started with so much promise, especially on offense. But this side of the ball has sputtered. Kitchens is new to the Browns having been hired in January. He is not an outwardly personality and doesn’t seek notoriety or attention like Haley seemingly did. He will become a coordinator that will fall in line instead of attempting to maneuver around someone else. The continued development of QB Mayfield is paramount. The defense is the rock of the club. The offense needs to improve and time will only tell if Kitchens can do this. He has worked with -and under - some very good coaches at the NFL level and has helped develop some very good core players.”
stevegrab
Good info James, I'm just tired of the constant change, which means more reboots and more turnover, rebuilding and of course losing. It sounds like Kitchens has worked with some very good coaches, hopefully he learned something. Been a Browns fan far too long to get optimistic now, and our remaining schedule looks very tough. 20 years of this horrible version 2.0 club has been hard to take, possibly worse since the Browns were a very good team when I first started following them (mid 80s when I moved to CLE). Had season tickets for a while, and sat through the move and return and watched a lot of bad, and some good football.

He's young (32?), and works under arguably the best AD in college football. If he keeps winning he can take a shot at the NFL anytime. I do ask Santa for this to happen every night though. jamesplante11
1 minute ago, LordOpie said: i agree, which is why I suggested "CLE should open the bank account". I don't what would entice him besides money? It sounds like college coaching is more rewarding and fun. The community support is beyond anything the NFL can provide. So is there anything an NFL team can offer a successful college coach besides more money? In the case of the Browns, they have a solid FO outside of ownership, oodles of talent, a very low bar, and Riley's favorite QB. At this point I think the team with the best shot at luring him away is Cleveland, but its still a long shot even with money If he comes to Cleveland and is successful, he could be looked at like coaching royalty. If he comes to Cleveland and fails, everyone will look at it as "well, everyone fails in Cleveland anyway" The next 8 games will be interesting to say the least, each week could be considered a trap game because the entire staff literally has nothing to lose at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if their first offensive play is a trick play or an absolute bomb downfield. Look at Mayfield to Cajuste in the Lions game, Mayfiled stepped in the huddle and said "Hey we are going to score here" (14:55 - 1st) B.Mayfield pass deep left to D.Cajuste pushed ob at DET 39 for 41 yards (D.Shead). DET-R.Milligan was injured during the play. His return is Questionable. Penalty on DET-R.Milligan, Defensive Holding, declined.
