Doak Walker Award Winners

Kinda a dead time for the next three weeks. Stumbled across the Doak Award Winners - the best college running back for the year.

Interesting how many whiffs there were in the NFL. I mean, these were supposed to be the best of them all. Maybe 10 of the almost 30 players had some sort of a career. Only Eddie George, Ricky Williams, LaDainian Tomlinson and Melvin Gordon translated into an elite back in the NFL IMO.

I saw a clip on LaMichael James that made me look.  Have to know all of these guys were drafted in fantasy.

Too many Browns busted draft picks on those lists, especially QB & WR).  In general the QB list is a who's who of failed QB picks. Peyton was elite, Cam has had some nice stretches, DeShaun is on his way, Mayfield looked promising, Mariota/Winston continue to have struggles. The rest are banta fodder.

Of the RB I was surprised to see Mevlin Gordon listed as elite, I hardly noticed his great year last season with all the other stuff going on (and Chargers buried in TV, in the Rams shadow in LA).

Melvin is somewhat of an enigma imo. His numbers are definitely inflated by system, QB, and goal line opportunities. As I type that I realize that most RB's these days are, but honestly it is rare to see Gordon running amok against a defense . He's truly a product of an offensive plan that puts him in position to excel. Put him on any other team and I'd think we'd see lower numbers and his fall from elite (?) to mediocre . Rivers' understanding of where he should be and his delivery on every pass puts him where he is. LT was different. By a lot.
