Vikings WRs

Do we have any insight into how they will line up Thielen and Jefferson... Percentages in the slot vs wide?

I am sure thielen will play more wide out but not seeing a projected breakdown.

I think the starting 2nd WR for the Vikings is Johnson, not Jefferson. Jefferson's been outplayed in camp.

ETA: So says Paul Charchian, at least

conflicting reports on the same day....

  • First-round WR Justin Jefferson has “distanced himself” from the rest of the Vikings receivers.

This conflicts with reports Jefferson isn’t higher than the No. 3 option. Jefferson missed the first two weeks of training camp on the COVID-19 List. Despite that, he’s rotated with Olabisi Johnson and Chad Beebe behind Adam Thielen in three-wide sets. The Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer believes Jefferson is “set up well” to win a starting job.

  • The Athletic's Chad Graff reports Vikings rookie WR Justin Jefferson is "the clear No. 3 option" behind Adam Thielen and Bisi Johnson at practice.

Initial expectations were Jefferson would open the year across from Thielen as the team's No. 2 receiver, but the No. 22 overall pick reportedly "hasn’t shined against the second-team defense quite as much as you’d expect." That's obviously notable since the Vikings utilized the second-highest rate of 12 personnel (one running back, two tight ends) as their base offense last year and are fully expected to continue that approach with Gary Kubiak engineering play-calling duties. Jefferson is clearly being overvalued at his current ADP as the WR53 if he opens the year as Minnesota's third receiver.

I traded Michael Thomas for Thielen 2 years ago because I'm stupid.  I still have and will start Thielen so you can rest assured that he'll have a garbage year.

I am getting conflicting reports here to although admittedly I haven't been watching it super closely. We have some offensive line issues too. I don't know how excited I'd be about drafting Jefferson

I have heard that jefferson will take the slot, though I believe that thielen will play some as well as that was his strength.  at lsu jefferson caught 11/1500/18 from burrow. seems like a seamless fit.

  • ESPN's Courtney Cronin believes Justin Jefferson will begin the year as the Vikings No. 3 receiver.

It's a notable distinction because 51% of the Vikings pass attempts late last season came with only two receivers on the field. Bisi Johnson appears to be the other starter in two-TE sets alongside Adam Thielen with Jefferson getting reps in three-receiver sets and when the two starters need a breather. Keep expectations low for Jefferson early, but he's a breakout candidate in the second half of 2020. Cronin believes Jefferson "looked every bit the part of a first-rounder in training camp whether he lined up in the slot or outside."
