Jamal Lewis - RB  Baltimore Ravens  11/22/04

Lewis twisted his ankle yesterday against the Cowboys and according to HC Brian Billick is receiving an MRI today with further examination by the medical staff. The results are not expected to be available until Monday night or Tuesday. The initial impression given by Billick was that Lewis does not have a severe sprain and that he was held out of the Dallas game largely as a precautionary measure made easier when the Ravens won the game handily anyway.

It was on ESPN.......Monday Night Countdown...I have already talked to two people who heard it as well. I'm sure we will get a confirmation Tuesday in the press.....but i asure you, it is what Mort reported. No link, on live tv....sorry.

The link that was posted was from ealier today.....before the results of the MRI was known to the Ravens......Tuesday we will find out those results and from what Mort says, it's not good news.

I’ll vouch that Mort did say what theeohiostate is reporting on Monday Night Countdown. I was even going to come and post it when I saw theeohiostate’s post here already.

I'm not saying that Mort might not be full of sheet but that's generally not the case, IMO.

I didn't hear Mort's report, but I do have two other very reliable sources which I think will convince you that this is not only possible, it's probable:

1) I have Jamal Lewis on my Roster, and

2) I dropped Chester Taylor this past Saturday to pick up Julius Jones.

Now you know the report about Jamal is bound to be accurate!

And let me take this opportunity to apologize to all of the Julius Jones owners out there, for picking him up and virtually guaranteeing his uselessness for the remainder of the season.

If Lewis is out at least there's a silver lining - us Taylor owners won't have to worry about Musa Smith vulturing his carries.

Here is what The Sporting News has to say:

Lewis hurt his right ankle Sunday and did not return. He underwent tests Monday, and his status will be determined later in the week. Coach Brian Billick said it's possible that Lewis could be lost for two weeks.

Well, for what it is worth... this is from Fanball:

"The News

Running back Jamal Lewis, who was knocked out of Sunday's win over the Cowboys with a sprained ankle, anticipates being back in the lineup next Sunday against the Patriots. "It's really not that bad," Lewis told the Baltimore Sun. "I could have gone back in, but we were up, so I was like, ‘Let them handle it.' I don't expect to miss next week."

Our View

Lewis was seen on the sidelines testing his sore ankle and lobbied the coaches to let him return. However, with the Ravens in control in the second half, there was no need for them to risk injuring their star back further. Jamal has already missed two games this year due to suspension, so you would think he'll make every effort to be available for this week's showdown with the Pats. Chester Taylor stepped in for Jamal following the injury and would be in line for additional carries if Lewis is at less than full go on Sunday."

The latest from Rotoworld doesn't sound good:

Latest News  Nov. 23, 2004 - 9:17 am et

The Baltimore Sun reports that Jamal Lewis is likely to miss this week's game, and possibly much more.

Lewis walked with a "severe limp" yesterday after taking his MRI. Early estimates say Lewis could be out anywhere from 2-6 weeks. The Ravens won't announce his official prognosis until tomorrow. Grab Chester Taylor now.

News Story: In what has proved to be a worse injury than the Ravens initially thought, Jamal Lewis' sprained ankle likely will sideline the Ravens' All-Pro running back for Sunday's clash against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, a league source said. Lewis went down in the first quarter of Sunday's 30-10 rout of the Dallas Cowboys and did not return. Although Lewis said he would start Sunday, he walked around the locker room with a severe limp. He underwent a magnetic resonance imaging test yesterday and later met with a specialist. According to the source, there is some concern the injury could keep Lewis out four to six weeks, which would put his season in jeopardy. His status will officially be announced tomorrow when the Ravens receive the results of his tests and a definitive prognosis.

Fantasy Analysis: It sure sounds like Lewis will not be able to play this week and possibly for a few more weeks. Chester Taylor is a good pickup with Lewis out.

Taylor is gone in my dynasty league, but I did pick up the rookie B.J. Sams & put him on my taxi squad. Any of you Bmore fans have any scoop on the guy & whether or not he'll see any PT? I know he's done a pretty good job as a return man & has a couple of TD's under his belt so far.

Is it possible that the Ravns are playing games about his injury because they are playing NE this week? Just a thought. Also, it's not like Mort has not been wrong about Lewis before... If I remember correctly he speculated inaccurately about how long Lewis's suspension would be...

maybe food for thought from a wishful Lewis owner.. :D

Out this week, officially 'expected' back next week. Ravens may sign Jamel White. BJ Sams is not listed, but I'm sure he'll see a carry or two.

From http://www.balitmoresun.com

Jamal Lewis has been ruled out for Sunday's game at New England with a sprained right ankle but the All-Pro running back is expected to return next week, Ravens coach Brian Billick said Wednesday.

Chester Taylor, the Ravens' only healthy tailback, will make his third start of the season.

Lewis, who led the NFL with 2,066 yards rushing last season, has been limited to 651 yards and five touchdowns in a year filled with distractions. He was suspended by the NFL earlier this season for two games.

"He's definitely out for this week but they [the doctors] seem fairly optimistic that he could go next week," Billick said of Lewis.

The depth at running back is a concern with No. 3 running back Musa Smith out for the year with a broken leg.

The Ravens are expected to sign veteran Jamel White later Wednesday but he likely won't play Sunday. Billick said anyone signed would not have enough preparation to play. Harold Morrow is the No. 2 tailback behind Taylor.
