goose228
This from Fanball... THE NEWS Two days after declaring rookie Tatum Bell the Broncos starting running back, the Denver Post backtracked on Wednesday after comments by head coach Mike Shanahan indicated that veteran Reuben Droughns will retain his first-string duties. "You can see that we've got two guys that can handle the ball," Shanahan said in Tuesday's press conference. "Both guys are going to play. Reuben will start. I feel very good about our situation." Shanahan added that both backs are healthy enough to practice all week. OUR VIEW This is getting messy, to the point where we don't feel comfortable going with either back on Saturday against the Titans. Last week, Bell saw more action than Droughns, but it was not exactly an accurate assessment as the Broncos fell behind very early. There is little question that the Broncos are in love with their rookie's big-play ability, but if Droughns runs well early, Shanahan will stick with his veteran in a must-win situation. The best course of action would be to avoid the Denver backfield, as painful as that is.
