Former Dolphins Pro Bowl punter Reggie Roby died early Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. of unknown causes, according to his family. He was 43.

Mr. Roby was found unconscious and without a pulse on Tuesday morning by his wife, Melissa. After CPR was administered at his home, in the ambulance and at the hospital, Mr. Roby was pronounced dead at St. Thomas Hospital at 8:35 a.m.

Funeral arrangements have not been released. Mr. Roby was the father of six children.

Mr. Roby, a 16-year NFL veteran who played college football at Iowa, was chosen in the sixth round of the 1983 draft. He played 10 years in Miami, wearing the No. 4 and trademark watch on his left wrist.

Mr. Roby left the Dolphins as a free agent in 1993 second on the all-time list in punts (633), yards (25,347) and average (43.3). Mr. Roby once set a Dolphins record with a 77-yard punt at Buffalo in 1987.

After leaving the Dolphins, Mr. Roby played with the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers before retiring in 2002.

When the Dolphins would arrive at a stadium for walkthrough---if it was a dome---he would try to hit the roof with a punt.....and sometimes he would get it!!!! I've seen some blurbs about his work over the years, seemed to be a really good guy. A local sportsradio host here in Seattle grew up in Miami while Roby was kicking. I guess like three times as many people as usual would show up 2 hours before the game to watch him in warmups, and there would be oooos and ahhhhs from the crowd.

I remember him for never jumping when he punted, he always kept his foot on the ground and just booted. ----
