Avernus
definitely looks like a massive projector....but what it is supposed to be projecting is what's got my brain cooked..
matt770
I'm guessing the Balloon Boy Hoax family has something to do with it. Or it's probably aliens.
DMD
Assuming that it was not a giant photoshop/CGI gag, it looked like a projector with blue light but how does one make light swirl instead of beam in a straight line?

I wonder if this is connected with UFOs over San Diego? :oldrazz:

Pope Flick
I've seen funky things in teh sky from missile launches off of Vandenberg Air Force base. Something tells me this was a russian launch (like the article suggests) which had light hitting it in some weird way through the north pole - the article says it was sunlight (even though it was night there) that caused the effect. I can buy that... Here's one I remember: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...sa%3DN%26um%3D1
