  1. Is it a redraft league or keeper/dynasty league? Can't really blame him for picking up players if it's a keeper/dynasty league. If it's a redraft then non playoff teams should be locked out of waivers once the regular season is over (or once they are knocked out of the playoffs). Not really much you can do about it now unless you want to cut the players he added this week and let the contending teams have a shot at them in the next waiver period.
  2. you can edit the setting to be able to use the players as many times as you want
  3. MFL should be able to do what you want. If you select playoff league setup it has an option to set rosters each week allowing each player to be used only one time.
  4. Gopher can confirm, but I'm pretty sure the league is on mfl.
  5. I'll take 4 on the first sheet and the second sheet if you need help filling it.
  6. I am definitely not a car expert, but it doesn't sound like the alternator if the battery is going dead overnight when the car isn't running. The bolded sounds like your problem. My dad had a car that would do this. The problem was that something in the ignition was broken and you could turn the power on without a key in the ignition. You couldn't start the car but you could turn on the power which would drain the battery. I don't know what the exact problem was because he never got it fixed. He just made sure that the ignition was in the off position when he took out the key.

    Job Needed

I would continue trying to talk to anyone who works for a small local tax/accounting firm. Even if most ignore you there might be one out there that could use your help or point you towards someone else who does. The tax business for next year is a great idea. IMO, try getting some bookkeeping business to go along with it even if they use someone else to prepare their tax returns. When those client take their statements to a CPA they will notice if you do quality work and may be able to refer more business to you that they don't have time for or it could even get you an interview for a job if they know you are looking.

Some good info in the first paragraph. I would also suggest putting an ad on craigslist or in the local newspaper. Once you get a few clients it will get easier to find work because they will, most likely, be able to refer more business to you, assuming you do good work. I see a lot of bad bookkeepers everyday so finding one that does good work is valuable. I am not sure I agree with the second paragraph if you are saying "no official income" as in it doesn't need to be reported. Income from barter transactions still need to be reported. You mentioned that you are good with computers. Do you know Peachtree and Quickbooks? Most small businesses use one or the other so knowing both would be helpful. Also, if you don't want to try starting your own bookkeeping business you could reach out to any local CPA's. It may be tough right now since it's just after tax season but maybe someone has some overflow work that they could let you work on. Or at the very least they can keep you in mind for next tax season when they are hiring seasonal work.

I don't know anyone that is hiring but, since you have a degree in accounting could you start your own business doing some bookkeeping work from home? I work for a CPA and know several people who do this and make decent money.
  10. I picked up the Nats when it looked like nobody else wanted them. I already paid but you can have them back if you want.
  11. I'll take them if nobody else wants in.
  12. I understand that but some of the other posters in the thread really seem to be hung up on how this guy is reporting the expense on his taxes and it really doesn't matter as far as you, or anyone else, are concerned. All the 1099 does is report to you how much you received for services which you were going to report anyway so there is no additional tax or reporting for you.
  13. 1099's are a federal form so the $600 limit applies to all states. As for the part about how the client is reporting the expense, that has nothing to do with Scorcher's company. If the client is trying to deduct a personal expense as a business expense that is on him and he is the one that will have to justify the expense if he would ever be audited. Frankly, it is none of Scorcher's business how the client is deducting the cost of the limo. As far as he is concerned he performed a service, received payment and is going to report the income. That is where it should end. Beyond that Scorcher can't dictate how the client handles an expense on his tax return and really he should not be concerned with it because it isn't his problem if the client reports something incorrectly.
  14. I'll take 4 boxes on both sheets if there is still room.
  15. If you are a single member LLC then there is not a separate return to file for the LLC. You will file the activity on schedule C of your personal return. When filling out schedule C there will be a place for you to put the LLC name and tax identification number. You don't have to have a tax identification number for the LLC if you are the only member but it is recommended for liability purposes. Also, losses from the LLC can be taken against your regular income (W2 etc) as long as you have active participation in the LLC and assuming you have basis to take the loss.
  16. I'll take a spot if there is still one available.
  17. I think you completely missed the point of what is going on here. This move has very little if anything to do with football. This move is all about money for the Big Ten and Nebraska. I also read a rumor last night that the Big Ten is getting set to invite Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Missouri to possibly move to 16 teams.
  18. http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=179414,00.html I don't know your situation but you probably won't have to pay tax on the debt forgiven in the short sale.
  19. The bolded is the correct answer. Since she is a single member LLC it is considered a disregarded entity and there is no separate filing requirement. When you prepare your personal return you will fill in schedule C for her like she is a sole proprietor. Just make sure that for the name of the business that you put the name of the LLC and also put the tax identification number of the LLC on the form.
  20. Not a CPA but I do work in public accounting. I mainly work on business returns (S-Corps, LLCs) but do prepare some personal returns when we are busy. Just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea and think that they are getting answers from a CPA.
  21. Is she a single-member LLC? If so, just file schedule C for her business on your personal tax return. No separate return would be required. If she has a partner they will need to file form 1065 and then she will receive a K-1 with her share of the income. Once you receive the K-1 you can finish your personal return.
