  1. Cost of Game Tickets

I don't know if this belongs in this forum or the tailgate, but I put it here. I normally get treated to 2-4 games a year by subcontractors or suppliers, so it has been a long time since I've personally bought tickets. This week my sister-in-law and her future hubby asked if me and the wife wanted to go to a game with them. Our comment was sure as long as we get good seats. Well while it was worth it to me, to pay the money to get the good seats, unfortunately they can't afford the good seats. I was shocked at how much of a premium ticket brokers put on seats to an NFL game. While ticket brokers are great for making sure a stadium is sold out, which is good for the owners, as well as the local TV audiences, are they killing the game experience for the average Joe? Seats that are shown on the stadium map to go for $139 are going for 5 to 7 times that.

Wait a few days so I can build up some points, and I'll be happy to buy it.

I'm looking for axes. If anyone is going to auction these of I'd ask that you will give me a heads up. Unfortunately it will be a few days before I have the points to bid on one.
  4. I Need The Wisdom of The Huddle

It really depends on what you want the architect to do. Do you want him/her to just draw a floor plan? Do you wan them to specify the materials used, down to hardware and fixtures? Do you want them to do progress inspections and authorize billing? There are different levels of service, and as you would expect, the more service you desire, the more it will cost you. If you are just looking to get a rough floor plan, then I wouldn't use an architect, unless your municipality requires an architects stamp for a permit. If that is not required, and all you are looking for is a floor plan, have a builder come out, discuss what you want, and have him submit a plan with a budget price. Have several builders do this, then when you figure out which one you are going to use, refine it. Make sure going in you know what materials / finishes you want, and what type of hardware and fixtures you want, so that the builder doesn't try to hit you up for extras. If you do this thoroughly you shouldn't have any extras with the possible exception of unforeseen circumstances. Unforeseen circumstances are items that are either buried or in the walls that there was no way of knowing they were there until the area was disturbed.
  5. Cost of Game Tickets

I'm doing the friend thing, if that doesn't work, I'll squeeze a subcontractor. Problem with the subcontractor angle, is they usually only give me two tickets, because they want to go along to try to shmooze me. So, I'll get mine, I'm just thinking about my sis-in-law and her beau.
  6. Arthur Blank to speak at 4 PM EST

I was disappointed in the press conference. About all that was said was that Blank wanted a 4 game suspension but the Commish told him to hold off. Is it just me or does that just sound like posturing, trying to plug the whole in a dam with a finger?

I've moved up about 16 pages in the last 24 hours, and have only 22 times winning 20 and losing 2. And 2 of those wins were fought after the last rankings update. Right Now I'm on page 8.
  8. Report: Decision to Cut Vick due This Week

All they have to say is look at his completion percentage. How many starting QB's in the league have a completion percentage as low as his?
  9. Jamaica, Cancun, Bahammas?

Jamaica sucks! I've been there twice, the fist time we actually stayed on Jamaica, the second time it was a shore excursion on a cruise. I hated it both times. The people there are very aggressive in trying to sell/scam you. I'll never go back. Cancun is nice, and the local people are very pleasant. I just got back from the Rivera Maya which is about 1/2 way between Cancun and Cuzemel. I prefer Cuzemel. If you are going to the virgin islands, I'd suggest you go the BVI's as they seem to be less commercialized than their American counterparts. Peter Island is really nice. You would have to fly in to Tortolla and the ferry across to Peter.
  10. So, what should I wear to meet dmd?

I have a 9:00am meeting tomorrow in Dallas. Where are ya'll meeting, and about what time?
  11. Treated lumber

You should have stared asking questions before you built it Mr. Watson.
  12. son went fishing last night with my BIL

Have you killed the guy yet? I say feed him to his beloved fish.
  13. So, what should I wear to meet dmd?

Boots because it tends to get deep.
  14. Treated lumber

What do you need us for smart ass? I still say go with redwood, It will last as long if not longer and looks much better.
  15. Treated lumber

Use redwood. It will hold up better and look better. Regardless of what type of wood you are going to use, you need to put a sealer on it. Never paint a deck, that is a maintenance nightmare.
  16. Taxes and the War

Actually I was the first one to say that lowering the deficit was good, but we need to be lowering the debt.
  17. It's Hotter then

It's hotter than a $2 whore on dollar night.
  18. Taxes and the War

Lowering the deficit is great, but we shouldn't be excited about that. We should not have a deficit, and need to be paying more than just interest payments on the debt.
  19. Taxes and the War

I know I've already said this, but I'll say it again. I don't mind increasing taxes to pay for the war, but for every percentage point we increase taxes we should decrease federal spending by the same percentage in non-essential areas, with the only essential areas being the military and border control. Then once we pay off the dept we can start increasing spending, but for each percentage point we increase spending, we need to cut taxes by the same percentage. And by the way, I'm not borderline greedy, I'm very greedy. That is one of the reasons I'm able to employ as many people as I do. If I wasn't greedy, I'd probably just retire and live on a beach in South-South Texas?
  20. Any Huddlers with iphones?

Two architects (they work for the same firm) that I know just go them. It was very annoying to me to have to wait on them input information into them during a meeting we recently had. Needless to say both of them are hopeless geeks. The only other person I've seen with one so far is a ghey guy. So it appears that only geeks and gheys are buying them.
  21. Greatest American "Genius"

That's a pretty good list. If forced to pick just one, it would have to be Jefferson.
  22. Greatest American "Genius"

My mother's uncle invented an automated machine that slices bread for large commercial bakeries along with quite a few other bread baking innovations. His name is Reagan Garrett. He retired at the age ov 40 and hasn't had to work a day since.
  23. Taxes and the War

True, but once we pull out, we will be in better shape if we do not raise taxes, because if we do, it will more than likely cause an economic down turn. We need to cut spending to all non-essential government programs, before we start raising taxes. If after than, and after we pull out (which it appears we will do in the next couple of years) then if we still need to raise taxes, the go for it. Do we really want to be fighting a war and and the economy at the same time if we don't absolutely have to?
  24. Taxes and the War

Is that really what you want to hang your hat on? One game, where he threw for a modest 250 yards? The guy is an over glorified RB. All the records from your link except the one you have here are for rushing. He would make a decent RB, but as a QB the guy is horrible. I wouldn't be surprised if LT doesn't have a better QB rating than Vick.
  25. NBA offer to take the heat off the Vick situation

No doubt. All you have to do is look at the championship series between the Heat and the Mavs two years ago. It was obvious that the refs were bailing Wade out the entire game. One guy goes to the line more in a game than the entire opposing team. It was just ridiculous. That is why I now refuse to watch the NBA on TV. I'll still go to a couple of live games (primarily because we have subs that have nice tickets) but that is mainly for the atmosphere and not the outcome.
