  1. Cover Versions

We've done a ton of music threads before so how about another one? This time the idea is to list your favorite cover versions, including the song, the covering band and the original (or the most well known version). Some covers are better known than the original, but that's fine, list 'em anyway. Here's 10 to start: All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan) Like a Rolling Stone - Spirit (Bob Dylan) Get Out Of Denver - Eddie and the Hot Rods (Bob Seger) The Right Stuff - Monster Magnet (Robert Calvert) A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker (Beatles) No Fun - Sex Pistols (Iggy and the Stooges) Whisky In The Jar - Metallica (Thin Lizzy) If I Were A Carpenter - Chicken Shack (Bobby Darin) Reason To Believe - Rod Stewart (Bobby Darin) Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan (Jimi Hendrix)
  2. Single best album rock ever produced

Are live albums included? ETA: Never mind.
  3. Gambling Ref in the NBA

    Gotcha.
  4. Gambling Ref in the NBA

Why? Are you saying that the gambling didn't affect who won, just how much the winner won by?
  5. Greatest American Rock Band

That must be why you forgot them. That's typical for bands who are the best in the past couple decades.
  6. Briggs, Bears Close to Deal

Not true. Briggs is the one backing down here. The Bears had made it clear they would be prepared to sit his ass down for a year and getting a one year deal done is good for both parties Briggs because he won't be going bankrupt and the Bears because they can retain their excellent LB corps one more year.
  7. Music obsession.

Might want to consider simply hiring out the job to a pro.
  8. Gambling Ref in the NBA

If there are other refs involved, the NBA is in deeper trouble than any sport has been for many years. I'm guessing this is isolated, or, if it isn't, the NBA will make darn sure nothing else surfaces.
  9. Music obsession.

As long as the space is available, I'd keep 'em as masters in case of data corruption or whatever.
  10. I'm outta here. I'm done with FF.

So.....where and what did he post? I'm interested to see how the cold turkey treated him after two years.
  11. Arthur Blank to speak at 4 PM EST

You had me until "back with the Falcons". I don't think that's going to happen. He could be in jail, he could be out of the game or he could be working for Al Davis but I doubt he'll be a Falcon.
  12. RIP Yankees

You're right, I should have waited until I had all the Yank fans snappin' at the bait.
  13. RIP Yankees

    That was a good one.
  14. RIP Yankees

LOL at you Yankee "fans" getting in a circle jerk over wiping the floor with poor old Tampa Bay a couple times.
  15. Stern is on now

In addition, the NFL looks at every single decision made in every game, going through a lengthy debrief with every ref. Too many bad decisions and you're quickly history as an NFL ref.
  16. Arthur Blank to speak at 4 PM EST

+2. Stern has by far the worst problem. The Bonds / BALCO thing is being addressed, however slowly and the record is only that - a record. The NFL need only dropkick Vick to be seen to have done the right thing. But the NBA......a lot of fans are going to wonder why they should bother showing up.
  17. Music obsession.

Cool. That's pretty much what I was intending. I don't have any filtering between LP and CD right now, so I was thinking of cleaning the sound as necessary when the CDs are ripped. I don't have much of a noise problem due to the LPs being kept rigorously well over the years. BTW, in two years time, my oldest ones will hit 40 and are still in great shape - will CDs last that long?
  18. UAW vs. Japan

Same applied to the airline industry.
  19. Exactly. There always has to be a boogeyman.
  20. Music obsession.

Good point. I'm enjoying the opportunity to reacquaint myself with stuff I haven't played for years, though. Also, most of my tapes are irreplaceable as they were recorded from radio. That "cleaning software" Sky mentioned sounds interesting for when the time comes to rip the CDs that were made from the LPs. Most of my LPs are in excellent condition so I don't have the snap, crackle pop very much but it sounds like software that would be useful nevertheless.
  21. Music obsession.

I'm still converting tapes and LPs and 45s to CD...... Still, it is then trivial to rip the CDs to the computer if I want to.
