Outshined
The Strib has a training camp blog that is upddated by Kevin Seifert twice daily...Sounds like Tice is being wishy washy/flip flopper/waffler, what every you want to call him. Here is his last entry: Interpretive journalism Yeah, that’s a fancy way for what we as beat writers spend a lot of time doing at training camp: Trying to figure out the difference between what somebody says and what they really mean. Take this afternoon’s media briefing with Mike Tice. Asked to assess Michael Bennett and the running game, Tice ended up talking a lot about Moe Williams and at one point said suggested that Williams might be the No. 2 running back behind whoever wins the starting job, Michael Bennett or Mewelde Moore. “When the running back taps out and needs a break,” Tice said, “you could see Moe running in to be that guy.” What? That certainly was a departure from everything Tice had indicated up until today: That Bennett or Moore would start, the other would be the backup and Williams would be saved for third-down/short yardage. So as you see Saturday’s quote in the papers and on the internet, you might want to consider whether Tice actually meant it — or whether he is simply trying to remind Bennett and Moore that they are not guaranteed one of the top two spots, especially if they go through the motions in training camp. Just a thought. And still no further word on the draft picks.
