Matrix
We have added a flex player to our line up this year and I was wondering what the best strategy for drafting is considering this new "wrinkle" We start 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1k, 1DST. The flex player can be either an additional RB or WR only. My thought is RB is the way to go and that could influence my draft strategy and lean me toward going RB, RB, RB with the first three picks. I am picking 3rd in our 12 team league. Just wanted to get some additional thoughts! ps...I will answer yours in reciprocation!
Dirty Weasel
The possibility of starting 3 RB's will probably push Peyton down in your draft. Will you take him with your #3 pick? Good, didn't think so. LT and SA will go with first 2 picks. My guess is that the new flex is gonna make your #22 pick around the 19th best RB (Manning, Culpepper, Moss may go). So your choices with your 3 picks will be something like this: 1 - RB3, RB19, RB22 2 - RB3, RB19, WR2 3 - RB3, WR2, WR4 Option 1 leaves you strong at RB, but weak at WR, because you don't pick again until #46 and #51. Picks 46 and 51 you could go WR/WR, and end up with something like RB3/RB19/RB22/WR18/WR21 Option 2 gives you 2 strong RB's and a great WR to start. Picks 46 and 51 you could go RB/WR, and end up with something like RB3/RB19/RB30/WR2/WR21 Option 3 gives you 1 great RB and 2 great WR's to start. Picks 46 and 51 you could go RB/WR, and end up with something like RB3/RB30/WR2/WR4/WR21 If you have the knack for picking sleeper WR's, go with option 1. Just remember that you do start a minimum of 3 WR's each week, so your WR18/WR21 and one of your sleepers better be consistent producers. Option 2 may be the safest bet. Your third RB could be one of the rookies. One should still be available at pick 46 (assuming it's a redraft league) Option 3 is my favorite, and also the most risky in my mind. And since it's the most risky, I would just go balls to the wall. Going this route, your starting lineup could look something like this: RB - Priest Holmes RB - Cedric Benson WR - Torry Holt WR - Chad Johnson WR - Jerry Porter WR - some later round sleeper WR High risk, but if your team don't get hurt, you be going to Disneyland! Good luck

DocNiner52
I like the options Dirty Weasel came up with and I agree that option 2 would be the way to go for you. You need two strong rb's and a good #1 wr as a basis for you team. Running backs get more touches which makes them good options as flex player. I agree that you should be able to get a rb in the 4th that'll give you decent numbers at the flex position. Your chances are better with that strategy. You may get lucky with a wr later on who'll be a sleeper and could be plugged in at the flex spot.
Primetime9287
I would go Holmes/James (pick one), Martin/Jordan (whichever is available), and Steven Jackson. I am really high on SJ this year. If you can't get SJ, I would turn my head towards Holt, Harrison, or Johnson.
cliaz
I just use whatever has the best match up for the week. Last year I was using the run and shoot (2 RBs and 4Wrs) during the first half of the season, then got lucky in some trades and made a run the last 6 weeks of the Ffootball season with 4 RBs and 2 WRs. Always play the match up with the flex guy. IMHO.
SLGRAF
I'd put a RB into your flex spot, because it is more likely one of your top-2 RBs will be injured at some point in the season than one of your top-3 WRs. So, your flex RB will also act as insurance for your other two RBs. Then, if you need him in that capacity, you will likely have a decent WR on the bench who you can slide into the flex spot. Adrenaline
I'd go RB RB RB because there are not enough RBs to go around.
