CaptainHook
The Houston Texans gave running back Domanick Davis a new five-year deal and a big raise, scrapping his league-minimum contract after two straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Davis, a fourth-round draft pick in 2003, has 2,200 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns in two seasons. He was in the last year of a three-year contract that paid him $360,000 annually. While financial terms of the new contract were not released, general manager Charlie Casserly said Davis was getting a substantial raise. "We didn't feel it was appropriate for him to be playing for the league minimum," general manager Charley Casserly said. "This shows that if a player comes in and performs better than expected, we're willing to tear up the contract and pay him what he's worth. This puts him up there with the good starting running backs in the league." Davis, 5-foot-9 and 221 pounds, rushed for 1,031 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie and came back with 1,188 yards rushing and 13 TDs last season. "I'm just real thankful," Davis said. "It's been a long hard road, and now I can take care of my family the way I want to. The monkey is off my back." Coach Dom Capers was happy to hear the news. "Domanick has earned that reward," Capers said. "It didn't take long for us to see that he had running vision and running ability. He's a good runner and a hard worker, and a lot of people don't realize he led the running backs in the AFC with 68 receptions." link
Swampnuts
Well deserved $$ IMO, and a smart move by the Texans.
cliaz
I still can't see him going as high at the 4th overall pick. But multiple mock drafts i'm in, i've seen him that high......3 times now. 1. LT - no brianer 2. Alexander (assuming this is a keeper league.) 3. Priest 4. D.D. is pretty much how they turn out. I can understand being in a league that awards points for receptions but still. Now I can also see Edge not being this high because his Royal Highness Peyton loves to throw the ball even if they are 6 inchs from the endzone. Why wouldn't steven jackson be rated this high then, he is in an offense that is known for passing to the RB? I understand that he isn't proven and it is the rams, etc, etc, etc, (trust me I wouldn't draft jackson in the 1st round just making a point to my question.) basically - why do you think D.D. should be drafted this high? Seahawks21
Personally he would be my choice at #4. He catches tons of passes and is just one of those guys with a knack for the end zone. The scary thing is that as the Texans improve, he should become even better.

WaterMan
Not only does he catch a ton of passes, especially in garbage time, but I've read that he's getting a FB. Looks like these drafts are labeling him as stud-ly. Edited August 7, 2005 by WaterMan
CaptainHook
Not only does he catch a ton of passes, especially in garbage time,915064 well, then, you better hope the Texans aren't any better this year.
WaterMan
well, then, you better hope the Texans aren't any better this year. 915067 Yeah as soon as Carr turns into Peyton, it's bye bye TDs for Davis.
Favreforlife
Yeah as soon as Carr turns into Peyton, it's bye bye TDs for Davis. 915073
CaptainHook
Yeah as soon as Carr turns into Peyton, it's bye bye TDs for Davis. 915073 I hear Carr actually idolizes Mike Vick. That's why he doesn't throw many TD passes.
Seahawks21
There really aren't any I would rather have. In redraft leagues, I go for upside through the roof. I try to win it or nothin. This guy's potential to get over 2000 total yards and catch passes and score TDs puts him past the upside I see for most of the others. I think McGahee is gonna have a hard time finding room this year. I mean, you could always take Edge, but Dom Davis just seems like a little more fun. Its all personal preference this high in the draft anyways.
Ralph Furley
DD seems to be a factor whether the Texans are winning or far behind.
