B Man Inc
I joined a "just for fun" league to prep myself for my "real league" later this month. We just had our draft and I would love some feedback from all you Huddler experts (I'm brand new to the site). Please be brutally honest because it will help me for my real draft. I had the sixth pick which is the same pick I will have in my real league. 10 Man league: QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, DEF, K Scoring: 1/10 rushing, receiving yards; 1/25 passing yards; all TDs 6 points; no reception points; standard defesive points 1. Priest Holmes (could have had Edge but went with Priest, good choice?) 2. Domanick Davis (I thought he was a steal with the 15th pick) 3. Torry Holt 4. Javon Walker 5. Marc Bulger (A steal in round 5?) 6. Jason Witten (did I pick him too high?) 7. Steven Jackson 8. Ashley Lelie 9. Buffalo 10. Jimmy Smith 11. Cedrick Benson (I like his upside) 12. J.J. Arrington (also interesting upside) 13. Braylon Edwards 14. David Carr 15. Jeff Reed

As I said, it is a "just for fun", no money league, so you can imagine the skill involved. Nonetheless, it was a good draft experience. Should I have take Edge over Priest? Goldsheet
Your team looks pretty solid but considering you are in a 10 team league I'm sure most of the rosters are strong. Just a hunch, in a keeper format edwards has value but I really don't think he'll do much this season. Bad qb situation. Jackson is a wild card imo. I love his upside. I hope Martz turns him lose and gets him 20-25 touches a game.
rhippens
obviously some poor drafting going on in this one so it's very hard to critique your team. it looks great but you obviously got lucky with some of those players falling to you. as far as the priest/edge question, it's not one that can be answered by anyone right now. it's just a matter of preference. if you think priest can stay healthy, of course you take him. if you are worried about his health, then you take edge. again, gut feeling, matter of preference. but since you did pick priest, i would've liked to see you get larry johnson too. Do you mind listing the 1st pick's team in your draft..just curious.... 915725 The first pick's draft looks like this: 1. Peyton Manning 2. Jamal Lewis 3. Rudi Johson 4. Andre Johnson 5. Reggie Wayne 6. Donald Driver 7. Randy McMichael 8. Ryan Longwell 9. Indianapolis 10. LaMont Jordan 11. Aaron Brooks 12. Warrick Dunn 13. Troy Williamson 14. H. Miller 15. P. Dawson Keep in mind, there was some very poor drafting going on so it's hard to tell.

I just drew #1 slot in my 12-team redraft league, and I have run 3 'simulated drafts' and can't justify Manning in any of the resulting scenarios. Even in my QB-friendly scoring system and with his 10-12 points higher than any other QB each week, I end up giving up 5-10 points/game overall in each, due to the lousy WRs and 2nd tier RBs that you end up with. Unless he actually does better than last year - and that's almost impossible! Of course, if I'm going up against a team with the other Manning (Eli), I might still win that week... Sorry to hijack your thread here, but NOTE to other #1 draft slot guys: run those simulations and see what you come up with before pulling the trigger on Manning... Grits and Shins
Nonetheless, it was a good draft experience. 915548 I disagree ... it does no good drafting with a bunch of boneheads when attempting to prepare for a real draft. rhippens
I disagree ... it does no good drafting with a bunch of boneheads when attempting to prepare for a real draft. 916348 that sums up this thread. way too hard to tell how you did because there was obviously some poor drafting. in a competitive league, you will not end up with a team that is nearly as good as the one you have now. this was not good draft prep for you. don't take that as you did not do a good job, take it that this mock is not a good way to analyze how others will go. Fun or otherwise the group your playing with must like Basketball or something else! They know nothing about Football!! You still have to Get Larry to be on the safe side then I'd give you and A- grade just because the talent level in this league clearly it's there from anyone else! Roo
When I see rosters like this I just go numb. My advice would be to find a more competitive league. These people in your league, do they watch football? (I don't mean this to be offensive, it's just a little shocking) Starting RBs dropping to round 10.....I really can't even fathom who was picked instead. I have learned my lesson. The draft "experience" was not what I hoped for but I still think it was useful in perfecting my drafting strategy and system. I have made bad picks in the past acting on emotions and time constraints so it was good to get a draft under my belt before the real one, even though the draft was no help in deciding where players will be taken. Thanks for all the feeback anyway.

If this draft was "no help in deciding where players will be taken" I am unclear as to how you think it was of any use other than to entertain you. jimerc21
Good team. I've found that just for fun yahoo leagues really don't help me prepare either as the drafting conditions are so different. For example, usually 1 or 2 folks let the site do their draft for them based off the default site rankings which of course, are a bit skewed. To tell you the truth, I wish a few of the guys in my pay league drafted more intelligently. There is usually 1 guy who starts picking QB's, WR's or TE's way too early...thus creating a perceived panic for others making them draft those positions too early. So even if I keep to my strategy of RB, RB, WR or QB etc. etc. with my first three/four picks, often times the players that should be there, are not. Just makes for a lame league and fantasy year. All this to say, have fun with the yahoo league... your team is solid no doubt. Hopefully our pay leagues have some more consistency.
