abishagenaden
Just had a 10-team draft (I had 1st pick, which I wasn't entirely happy about initially) with a group of my co-workers (details below), and I have a couple of questions for those who might have the answers. [Plus, I have another draft for my last league in 1.5 weeks so I'd appreciate any advice in terms of what I did right/wrong in this draft. For instance, did I draft my DEF (Baltimore) too early? Or, did I make too many speculative picks, like Ricky Williams, Troy Williamson, and Larry Johnson?] It was an interesting draft, to say the least, and you can easily see who the USC and Philly homers are. I think my RBs are strong, my WRs are average, but I clearly have a weakness at QB. Did I wait too long to take a QB? I don't feel to comfortable just with Griese, Warner, and Bledsoe, especially when we have to start 2 each week. I assume Green, Collins, Bulger, and even Palmer would be upgrades over them? Can you see any trade offers I would be able to make for them? I know this is a long-ass post, but I do appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. And if you guys want my opinion on any of your own issues, I'll be happy to do my best! Thanks! Fenokee
The fact that QB TD's are worth 6 pts AND you need to start 2 QB's each week, yeah, you waited too long to grab a QB. 11 QB's were drafted after the first 6 rounds. You'd have been better served to take a QB in Rd 7 versus your DEF. Did you keep track of what your opponents were drafting? If you had, you would have seen the QB run coming between your 7-8 picks (7 QB's were taken during this time). You've got alot of depth. Taking Larry Johnson was not a bad move, especially in Rd 12. Holmes hasnt finished 2 of the last 4 seasons. If his age and past injury history catches up with him, you've got a diamond to trade or start. Ricky.....i dont know. He was a stud, but won't be back until week 6. With the RB's you have, you didnt really need him. It seems like you paid a little bit of attention to the bye weeks, but your DEF is off in week 3, and you didnt draft a DEF to fill in during that week, which means you're gonna have to drop someone. Early byes for DEF, K, TE get one for a filler, then drop it and go waiver wire for a position player. Something to keep in mind. Drafting a DEF in Rd 7 is early. But this year, to secure the BAL "D" you have to go earlier than alot of folks prefer. That type of decision is up to you. Personally, I would have waited at least 2 more rounds, if not more. As far as trades go, I didnt spend alot of time looking at each team. Some appear to be short handed in RB department. That's where I would start. But be firm on the trades. QB's in this type of league set-up are valuable, but so are RB's. Don't sell the farm for a mediocre talent. Good Luck Edited August 8, 2005 by Fenokee

I should have at least drafted a QB instead of the Bal DEF with my 7th pick. As for the DEF/K bye-weeks, I usually pick up a team/player according to the matchups. Last year, I think I had a different kicker every week. Might have to drop Ricky to pick up a DEF for week 3. Thanks Fenokee!
Grits and Shins
Wow ... you can start 4 RBs? You are going to be hurting at QB. I would have looked for a QB over Baltimore and maybe even over Williams.

I would have waited a couple of rounds and grabbed ATL or Carolina. You waited a bit long for a QB, you could have had a real solid QB in the 7th. At TE, I would look for Dallas Clark, he will get all the TE looks in Indy, look at his and Pollard's #'s from last year and give most all of them to Clark. I agree that grabbing Ricky as a 7th RB was a bit much. It will be great if he is named the starter when he comes back. With Larry Johnson, see about trading him and maybe Bledsoe to Team 4 and getting Collins or Brooks. Preferably Collins. So he can Handcuff Holmes. Also, maybe I can work a trade with Team 7 for both Trent Green and Clark. Thanks, lynch. Edited August 8, 2005 by abishagenaden
