Most Improved Defenses in 2005?

Minnesota made some huge moves to improve it's Defense this offseason. I think they could be excellent, although since there are so many new faces, it might take a year for them all to figure out how to work together.

Ravens -- They're switching to the 46-defense, which should result in more sacks/turnovers.

Minnesota -- Their entire defense has been over-hauled. We'll see how they do on the field, but you can't argue they look good on paper.

Chicago -- They had several key injuries last season and should bounce back this year.

How about the Lions. They added K. Kennedy, RW McQuarters, they get Boss Baily back and have arguabley one of the best DL in the league. I think they will have a very good year. Also, they will actually have a running game that will eat up some clock, giving the defense a rest. Lastly, they no longer have to face Randy Moss twice a year. :D

Yes, obviously a homer...but I say the Vikes will be the most improved D of 2005. I say that not only because of the defensive acquisitions made in the off-season, but if you look at the Vikes D last year, they were basically the worst. Their front line is going to be SICK I think, with Kevin W., Pat W., Udeze and James....the LBs will be decent (not great in my mind, but anything will be better than last year) and the corners are solid. Safeties are much better with Sharper now too. Compared to MN in 2004, this D will look like the 85' Bears.

So if they shoot all the way up to 27th they'll qualify as the most improved D :D

I'm pickin' the Steelers because they are on pace to score 96 defensive + special teams TDs (3 so far at half time of the Eagles game) :D

Thank you! I'll be here all week!

Moss is gone, Minn, Detroit and the Bears go up and Denver, SD and Kc go down a notch.

I think Carolina

Minn(on paper at least)

Detroit

Chicago.

The Vikings will be at least in the top 13 or so defenses (one can only assume, with the new acquisitions). That would make them most improved I would think.

With Chicago, you must consider the now Rex-less offense. The offense may not see much playing time... This will mean either (1) more on-field time for the Bears D to make plays, (2) more on-field time for the Bears D to tire out and wear down. I think we'll see more #2 until the offense gains focus.

Captain, what did the Colts do to improve their def in the off-season.  Do you see a lot of potential for improvement?

Look at the second half of last year, that defense started to gell and was grabbing a lot of turnovers. I think this year they'll be better.
