Green Bay Packers

Recommended Posts

The Packers are going to be very very bad this year. I didnt realize how aweful their O-line will be this season. Favre is going to get killed. Green will have very little room to run. I watched them tonight and they made a very poor Titans defense look like the Ravens D. I dont want any Packers on any of my ff teams...

You are 100% right! I saw the Packers/Patriots game (first half) last week, and Favre was under a huge pass rush most of the time. I read somewhere that A. Green is averaging 2.9 yards per carry in the preseason. This is not just a preseason mirage. The Packers o-line is horrible. I'm also staying away from Packers players.

Me too. Ahman Green fell to the early 5th round in a draft I was at tonight. :D

After tonight's game (which he did not play in) A. Green is averaging only 2.3 yards per carry.

He's also fumbled three times in three games, losing two of them.

And he hasn't rushed for a TD yet, either.

He did chip in 44 yards and 1 TD in 6 receptions, though.

It's preseason. They'll get things straightened out. Worse than the Bears. I dont think so.

They have to much talen in the QB and receiving corps plus too much pride.

I agree. Brett will find a way, like he always does. The Packers will at least be in the playoff hunt going into the last few weeks of the season.

Now that is ridiculous. How many people in that league? Even if it's only 8, that means there are 30+ people you would rather have on your team?

The Pilgrim is shaking his head. People are ready to give up on the Packer players during pre-season???? I understand the weaker O-Line, but there is a ton of talent on the offensive side of the football, and a crappy defense.

Not a bad recipe for success in fantasy football, especially if the players are falling in the drafts.

That being said, I am a bit worried, but not near enough to steer clear if these players fall down the charts.

I think it's a little easier to evaluate the O-lines in preseason than the other units because coaches like to leave in their starters longer. The starting O-line will typically play into the 3rd and 4th quarters, because coaches want to see how the backup qbs play behind the starting o-lines.

That being said, Green Bay and Detroit are in trouble.

I see the Packers' "formula" going back to what it was like after Reggie left in 98-99, which was Favre finding a way and a 9-7, 8-8 season. But not too bad for fantasy points - them were still pretty good seasons.

I think the verdict is still out. The Packers could be very bad or they could crawl into the playoffs. I think the verdict is out on the entire division really. Who know for sure how Minnesota's offense is going to be, their defense? What about Harrington in Detroit? They have looked horrible in pre-season. Could Orton step up and pull a Roethlisberger? With the addition of Moose and now Benson what would that mean for the Bears? Does favre still have it? Is the O line really that bad? The Defense?

Too many questions, questions which will be answered soon.

I'm a huge Packer fan and a Mike Charmin hater. That being said, I don't think the offense will be much different than last year. There is a lot of talent on the line still, they just need to jell. The RBs, WRs and TEs are still the same. The defense might be marginally better based on scheme and coaching, but it is still a terrible defense that is not championship caliber.

Thanks for drafting a QB who does nothing to help Brett Favre win another SB! :D Thanks for wasting huge money on Cletidus "Lazy doper" Hunt! :D Thanks for never drafting a D lineman in the 1st round!! :D

Todd my be right about the o-line. I'm still not convinced that the o-line is as talented as last year. I don't care how much talent is on that offense. If the o-line struggles, it all falls apart. You can have the best receivers and the best RB, but if Favre can't throw the ball because two people are always in his face then he's done before he begins.

I can definitely see them slipping to 6-10 on the season.

lol @ "they just need to gell." What is this, a Dr Shoals commercial? The eternal optimist Colt fans have been saying that forever about the D. Meanwhile (until the Simon signing that is) Polian has completely SUCKED at addressing it and, surprise, the D has pretty much sucked too.

And Favre will have big injury issues this year, finally. Why? I drafted him. His streak is a mere drop in the bucket compared to my luck with high FF draft picks who get hurt. In fact the last and only other time I drafted him was his worst year in a Pack uniform.

As for drafting Rogers, lol @ ripping on that too. Hate to break it to ya, but no way is the Pack going to win another SB with Favre, I don't care how long he plays. In fact he's been mostly responsible for their playoff exists recently with these horrible throws to God-knows-where to clinch the game for the other team.

This is my pet peeve in the NFL. Name the last 1st round QB to win a SB with his original team?

I bet Craig Nall and a stud D would win a SB before Aaron Rodgers, his huge contract and a mediocre D. Think I'm nuts? How about that 'scrub' backup who won in NE in 2002? How "Manning like" is Brad Johnson? Kurt Warner? Dilfer? All are Super Bowl Champs, while Manning, Culpepper, McNabb, McNair, Bledsoe, Drunkemiller, Couch, McNown, Akili Smith, Pennington, Heath Shuler, Ryan Leaf, etc. aren't!

Oh yeah, how many Texans and Lions fans are ready to mutiny if Carr and Harrington don't improve??

10 in the league, and I don't think it's ridiculous at all. The drop off for RBs is precipitous (qv Faulk, M.) and with GBs current issues there are way better options at RB.

Fave, like every other QB, needs a defense to win in the playoffs. Unlike the mid- and late-90s, he no longer has one.

I think that the Packers will be worse than the Bears this year (6-10 vs. 7-9). They can't run the ball as effectively and their defense has not improved one iota. But they'll probably still beat the Bears once.

Are you saying they are going to win the division? Because the Bears will be one of the wild card teams.

The Bears have to much talent on Defense to not make the playoffs.

Are the Packers worse than the Bears? No. At least the Packers still have a proven QB and the best group of WRs in the league.

But will they be a real Super Bowl contender? Hell, no. O-line problems or no, defense still wins championships and the Packers have no defense to speak of. Yes, they won the division without one last year, and given the sorry state of the NFC North they may yet win it again this year. Been there, done that. Without a strong defense they'll just get spanked at Lambeau Field in the first playoff game again, just like they did against the Vikings this past January (a debacle I got to witness firsthand at Lambeau).

I don't blame them for drafting Aaron Rodgers, as all the upper-echelon defensive players were already taken when the Packers' pick came up. I also don't blame them for ditching the declining Darren Sharper. But the Packers also passed on Ty Law, Samari Rolle and a host of other free-agent veterans who could have bolstered their defense. That tells me loud and clear that the Packers organization doesn't share Brett Favre's sense of urgency to get to another Super Bowl before he retires. In a word, shameful.
