But who the heck do you bring in in the middle of the season? I don't think Cottrell with his awesome defense has exactly earned the job.  :D

Exactly. I've never understood the mid-season firing approach. It might work in the NBA or NHL, but I can't imagine it working in the NFL.

I agree with you.I believe you play the season out.

I'm just telling you what my friend was stating.

The Vikings moved the ball fairly well, but they were extremely creative in finding ways to self-destruct.

I was at the Bengals Vikings game (Bengals season ticket holder) and my Viking buddy kept saying...emberassing.

Hopefully it's Mike Sherman, but my money is on Tice.

Sox, I might be coming to the GB-Cincy game, courtesy of some Eric Steinbach family members. This will be my first non-Lambeau NFL experience and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm not a big smack talker to other fans, except those purple clad h0m0's. I didn't appreciate the Chefs fans at Lambeau either, first of all I hate them being a Raiders fan and second, they were really, really rude.

I love the NFL and since I've always been a huge college fan, so I usually like a few guys on each team. Memories of Tim Krumrie aren't that far off and Chad Johnson is my stud FF WR. Anyway, I plan on starting the 'tailgating' about 9pm on Friday and not stopping until a few hours after the game is over. Plus, green is not my color, so I'll prob wear black anyway.

Did you see Mike Tice on the sidelines yesterday, with his little f*cking note pad and that stupid f*cking pencil behind his ear, walking around like a complete moran? I think he was piecing together his resume.

He has got to go. Game over. Get him out, and get him out NOW!!!!!!!!!! :D

As a Bengals fan, I feel I am qualified to talk about crappy football teams and head coaches. Here is what I think: A mid-season replacement can be a good thing, a nice boost, when the team is playing like it'd rather be doing anything else but play pro football. Just don't make a mistake in keeping that coach around the following year -- find other talent for the new season.

Bruce Coslet replaced Dave Shula (just typing his name still makes me :D ) mid-season, and the team appreciated it enough to play better the rest of the season -- they went 7-2 after a 1-6 start in '96. Coslet himself was replaced mid-season by Dick Labeau, who at least won four games after an awful 0-3 start under Coslet in which the Bengals were outscored 74-7.

So, I think the mid-season change can help, as long as you remember you still need to tap the talent that's not available now for the next season.
