Harrington

Recommended Posts

I wonder if the Vikings would try and pick him up? As much as I doubt the Lions would trade him to a divison rival it is possible (mainly because they know he is 'good' but with the history of how terrible the Lions home crowd is when it comes picking apart the wrong guys' ego he won't work out with them) but I wonder who else could use a QB like Harrington? He's got the skill, but simply needs a new surrounding to succeed.

...and I wonder who the next guy on the Lions roster will be that Lions fans boo at home games will be... :D Maybe they'll see it wasn't really Harrington afterall but only time can tell us that one.

I'm not so sure about that. Two years ago, everyone said he needs some skill position players to surround him because our receivers are crap. Well they drafted Rogers, Williams and Williams. They also added Kevin Jones to take some pressure off the running game.

No improvement.

Definitely the starting QB. This town is very hard on QB's and goaltenders. Unless McCown/Kitna start off good, the fans will boo and clamor for the backup by the 4th game.

I really think it was Harrington. He is a helluva guy but really didn't bring the leadership qualities necessary to lead the team. I hope he is successful but at most, I expect he'll be simply a serviceable QB. One of those that just need to "manage the offense and not lose games" types. I doubt he'll ever be in the top half of the league statistically.

Edit: I obviously need to work on splitting a post into several quotes :D

You could be right one that one. He just 'appeared' like he had so much potential! But he may never live up to it.

I'd just give him to the Vikings in the hopes that they would play him.

It's not like he could tell them any of the Lion's offensive schemes, not only do we we have a new coordinator, but he doesn't even know jack sh*t about Marriucci's or Moronweg's offense anyways. I remember when Rodney Peete sold out all his alleged 'Lions knowledge' to the Cowboys the year after we got rid of him and we still thorougly kicked their ass in Dallas on Monday night.

Anyways, there's no way the Lions can trade Harrington. That would mean there's actually somebody out there dumb enough to pick up his contract. They're going to have to cut him.

Hmmm.... we may be able to trade him to the Knicks for Allen Houston. Isiah would do anything to get out of that contract and Matt Millen is retarded enough to listen to offers from the NBA. That's about the extent of what we could get.

We are NOT hard on QBs and goalies. We're hard on sucky QBs and goalies. We booed Chevaldae and Essenza because outshooting the opposition 50-12 and losing the game 4-3 sucks. That use to happen all the time (in the playoffs).

When did things change... when we got goaltending worth a darn.

Vernon/Osgood/Hasik/Joseph/Legace don't get booed. Sucking a$$ and getting booed go hand in hand.

We won't boo a non-sucky QB. Following in Mitchell's footsteps was a piece of cake for Charlie Batch. I still like Batch and never conisidered booing him.

Following in Harrington's footsteps will be simple for whoever it is... they'll be warmly welcomed and have a two year honeymoon. All they have to do is demonstrate marginal mediocrity at the Charlie Batch level, and they're gold. Any more than that and they will be embraced/loved.

Joey, shouldn't you be out there hustling for a job (and growing a sack) instead of posting on an internet message board?

Joey, your skills (alleged as they are) aren't the the real problem. Its the impression that you're soft, that you're a "champagne and caviar" guy, that you could never lead a team. You are the anti-Favre.

If I'm you, I grow my hair, insist that people call me Joe, and I fight the biggest, meanest guy on your team the first day of practice. You're a football player for godssake.

It may be too late though. Good luck.

EDIT: :D

Like Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer? Last time I checked, they both have Superbowl rings.

Mort just said that since the Lions don't have to cut him until June, one of the 6 teams interested in him may end up trading to get him into camp sooner and have him learn the system. From what I caught KC, Seattle, and Miami are all interested.

Johnson and Dilfer won with some of the most dominant defenses of their generation. Don't give them too much credit.

But Joey has to agree to restructure first. NO team wants to pay him what he is owed. (the only QB making more this year will be Peyton Manning). If you were Joey and you hated the Lions as badly as people say he does wouldn't you just say.."Screw you. I'm NOT restructuring. Cut me."

:D Could not have said it better myself.

I so hope he goes to Minnesota so we can see what it is like to be on the other side for a change.

Please send Joey Harrington Fan Club membership money to TheGrunt. With every membership you will get a hat stating "It's the fans, not me" :D
