No home phone for like 4 or 5 years. Qwest screwed me for the last time, and I said "enough".

I get unlimited long distance on my cell phone.

The question I have is why would anyone have a landline home phone....

911? Dialup internet for those that don't need high-speed? DSL for those that can't get cable internet? People that get crappy cell reception for one reason or another?

For the times when mom and dad are out with their cell phones and the kiddies are home alone. :D

And for the times the :D y wife burns up the batteries in both cells. :D

And for the PPV lines into the satellite receivers.

If your lines are live, you can dial 911 I believe.

:D Hmm, didn't know that. Makes sense though.

I can see how landline phones would be obsolete in many circumstances. If I wasn't tied down to DSL, I probably wouldn't have one. I have DirecTV, not cable, so can't get cable internet without some hassle. I should probably just get the bare minimum phone plan, as any LD call I make is via cell.

The only people that ever called me on my home number were telemarketers. I can call 911 from my cell phone. I cant imagine anyone still using dial up internet anymore. If you can get DSL(meaning you reside within 18,000 feet of a CO that is properly equipped), then its almost a certainty that cable is available in your area. The only reason I could see it is if you had no cell phone reception at your house. Otherwise, ditch the landlines...

I can dial 911.

Dialup internet is for chumps. I can get cable, DSL, or wireless broadband without buying a home phone service.

If you get crappy cell reception, move out of the sticks or switch carriers. T-Mobile didn't work at my new house, so I switched to Verizon.

You can get internet from DirectTV called DirecWay. I used to have it at my old house but switched over to cable...

1) My Mom baby sits our dog when we go on short trips. She stays over and I'd need a third phone for that, plus she can't figure some of this new stuff out very well. Hell....she's 86yo next week!

2) I'm all over the house during the day and don't want to have to pocket the cell all the time.

3) Though I'm considering Comcast VOIP, I still have reservations.

4) I have an investment in land phones, and would hate to just trash them.

5) Cell phones still drop calls and need constant recharging. Just what I need when I need to call 911!

6) I'd have to send out hundreds of emails & letters telling people of the change.

Did I mention I don't like change? :D

Edit for:

To answer the original question..........$59/ month w/ minimal LD!

7) I call a lot of elderly people.....Aunts, Uncles, ex-workmates, etc. who complain about cell phone quality. BTW...I have Verizon.

That crap is hella expensive. Plus, they put download limits on you, so if you wanted to use it for backups, downloading music, or incredibly massive quantities of porn, they would disable your service. ghey.

Leave 1 at home with Mom's and you guys take the other one. No need for 3. Plus, how is it that you are actually older than your own mother?

You dont wear a belt so you can clip it on? Its a heck of alot easier to schlep around than a home phone.

3) Though I'm considering Comcast VOIP, I still have reservations.

I have used VOIP but not through Comcast.

4) I have an investment in land phones, and would hate to just trash them.

Investment? Dude, phones are disposable now! And you investment in securities, not phones

5) Cell phones still drop calls and need constant recharging. Just what I need when I need to call 911!

The quality of networks has improved dramatically over the past few years. i rarely EVER have a dropped call, and never at my house.

6) I'd have to send out hundreds of emails & letters telling people of the change.

Yes, you are older than 86..
