SuperBalla
lets just leave them alone and maybe they will go away. North Korea is not a military threat to the United States. I don't care how big the army is or how much its spends on defense when compared to its GNP or whatever.. I guess I am paranoid...but if N. Korea can't launch a nuke towards us why wouldn't they sell one to some terrorist group that would sneak one in the US? Kim Dong Ill hates us and S. Korea...their desperation doesn't sit well with me. Edited July 4, 2006 by SuperBalla
Yukon Cornelius
The North Koreans can bluster and posture all they want. But if they mix it up with the United States, they will get hurt and hurt badly. tats what they want then we rebuild them... thats what they want

As for your scenario (I seem to remember something similar being mentioned about three years ago), I suppose it is possible. But, when you think of what is involved, it doesn't seem very likely. Think about it. You're North Korea. We have to assume that, for what ever reason, you think that detonating a nuclear device in the Untited States is the thing to do. You've got a few nukes. You've never tested them. They are probably fairly big. You, a communist, would then have to give them to a terrorist organization likely compromised of religious zealots. These religious zealots would have to smuggle the device into the United States. An then they would have to successfully detonate it. And you couldn't get caught. It doesn't make sense for PRNK to risk its entire country by backing a risky terrorist attack with a high probability of failure, particularly when it provides no real benefit to your country. Your post is very logical. However, why would N. Korea outright attack America if it could only hit Alaska anyway? What if they miss and it hit Russia? zmanzzzz
Exactly. Maybe we should just back out all of our troop and financial support to all foreign countries. We could use the extra $$$ to actually take care of our own citizens and improve our own country. bing - f o c k i n g -go.
Squeegiebo
The first sentence of the article: North Korea would respond to a pre-emptive U.S. military attack with an "annihilating strike and a nuclear war," And the thread title: So N. Korea just threaten to Nuke us. They said they'd strike back if we attacked them. How is that position different than that of any other country in the world? Especially considering that no one believes that they can actually nuke us, what is the big deal here?
Ursa Majoris
bing - f o c k i n g -go. Aid isn't necessarily free money. A lot of aid is given on the basis of contracts being signed for US companies to supply certain goods, or to be able to e.g. mine in third world countries. Skilly
So what is China's position on all of this? Either they decide that N. Korea is f'king everything up for everyone over there and help to put an end to it, or they back N. Korea which presents a HUGH deterrent for any US military retaliation, should anything happen. We need China on our side in order to take care of this madman.
rattsass
This is nothing but sabre rattling. N. Korea knows that our resources are spread thin now that we occupy Iraq. They know they can spout off all they want. Puff out their chest and talk a good fight. It's all posturing. They are doing it because they know they can get away with it while our attention is unfortunately all focused in one place. Remain calm. All is well. They won't launch because we can fire back at the exact spot it left. Besides that was the Rush Limbaugh missile. Could only get it up for 41 seconds.
