missile launched

North Korea launched a long-range missile Wednesday that may be capable of reaching the United States but it failed after 35 or 40 seconds, two State Department officials said.

It ain't gonna reach the US if it falls out of the sky after 35 seconds.

Well... we now have justification to completely ratf8ck North Korea. The whole world said, "Don't you dare launch that missle", and they did.

If I was their parent, I'd spank the hell out of them and send them to their room without dinner.

Sure, it failed... like I predicted... but this is a clear sign that they are dangerous and reckless and diplomacy has not worked. This is one thousand times a better reason to invade than we had in Iraq. Too bad our military is pointlessly tied up in an impossible to maintain occupation.

I doubt we fight N. Korea with troops. I bet that missle was the first whiff of freedom those people have ever smelt. If they are smart...someone would kill Kim Dong willy'ILL. Think about the support they would receive in some type of uprising. There is no way those people or Army really wants to fight...

There must be some covert diplomacy that could happen here. :D Since those people don't have weapons smuggle them to them. What are their options? Die by the hand that feeds you or die hiding behind the hand that feeds you.

i hope the continued downplaying of north korea by our government is just rhetoric to calm the masses and that behind the scenes they are taking this seriously. to listen to our leaders, it's like, "eh, this is no big deal. we don't see it as serious ..." maybe it isn't, but to my untrained mind, these guys just keep stepping it up and each instance is more and more severe.

I thought we were suppose to shoot down the missles from Japan?

they tested one long range and 4 short range.

If the long range one didn't fail, we would have shot it down. I don't even know if it left N.K. at all. I heard only 4 made it to the sea of china

What? :D

There were people on the missile? :D

:D Holy chit you fektards....that launch was an opportunity for them to have the world send them some aid. I am watching CNN special on the secret state. Sad country... that North Korea. So I guess them shooting missles into the Japan Sea doesn't pose any threat to us...right?

Think about it. If we knew the missiles would land harmlessly in the sea, why would we risk a possible failure in shooting them down and showing our hand as being vulnerable?

When you hear nothing else except how the rest of the world is made up of barbaric rapists and murderers from the age of two and there is no external influence at all, not radio, not TV, not Internet, not even visitors, then it's not difficult to see that N Korea probably would fight.

I wonder how many millions of dollars they spent with that little display of force in the South Pacific. :D

I imagine you're right. I know the military is likely taking them very seriously & preparing for whatever needs to be done.

It's not the world ... it's the US.

Korea has been conquered by one country or another for 5,000 years. They're an amazingly resiliant people. There is still some residual hatred of the Japanese, because of their occupation in the early 20th century and what they did (wimmin for the military, school kids had to adopt Japanese names and could only speak Japanese), but the bulk of the hatred is directed squarely at the US -- the country that started the Korean War and still keeps troops in South Korea to keep families from reuniting.

There is basically no history in North Korea before Kim Il Sung, the father of Kim Jong Il. Dad single-handedly defeated the Japanese and turned back the Americans in the Korean War.

I spent a month with a South Korean military unit on the DMZ -- a diplomatic thingy, to help my conversational Korean and to help them with their English. Once the North Koreans spotted me as the lone American, the reaction was amazing: Some shots were fired, loud speakers at night blared about how I was sleeping with the soldiers' sisters and stuff. It was all true, of course, but it still wasn't a very nice thing to say. Kids start learning how to use weapons when they start school -- and the faux targets they shoot at are Americans, usually soldiers, but not always, because all Americans are evil and are anti-Korean.

It's useless info now, but when I was but a weetod, North Korea was a big supplier of Kaddafi in Libya, as well as any other rogue government that was adamently anti-American. They were not only big sellers of hardware, but they provided training, and money via the heroin trade. It's hard telling what these goofballs are into now, but I'm quite sure it's getting played down by our government. And the media is typically clueless.

One of the reasons its getting played down is so people don't think about this too much: If North Korea is such a big player in world terrorism, and perhaps a direct threat to our security, why did we invade Iraq? Also, we really can't do dick without China. China hates the North Koreans -- even Mao thought the old Kim Il Sung regieme was so steeped in a cult of personality as to be embarrassing to communism, if you can stop laughing long enough to believe that -- but they will not allow us to mess with a country on their border without consequences.
