yo mama
Just curious, what makes you say upper arm is too high? It would be close to the same height as a chest or upper back. It'll show when Goopster slips into that little strapless number of his, NTTIAWWT.

Now that I think about it more, it actually looks better than I thought. I was just saying that high on the arm wouldn't look that great but now that I picture it more, it looks better. The chest or the back is just a different area in general I guess so the placement on those areas would be specific to that part of the body (if that made any sense). ChuckB
dude, here's my take for what it's worth- my brother- NSab on these boards as most know has a boat load of tattoos all over- arms, legs, chest, whatever- he is 12 years older than me and I always thought he was crazy for getting all inked up,etc. I guess you could calssify me as a "preppy/jock" sort in high school while he was the "biker" dude- I never understood or appreciated the meaning or significance of a tattoo when I was younger but was never really opposed to it, just wasn't for me you follow? As I got older there were always the jokes from NSab and the rest of my family (my sister, Dad, and even Mom have ink) about when I would get a tattoo and I always said I'd never get one just to get one, until it had real meaning to me- like when I had kids for example, So long story short I got my first one two summers ago- a rose, heart with my 2 daughters names and my wife's name on my upper arm, and NSab's wife hit me up with my second (which is still unfinished ) on my other arm for my 3rd daughter. I did this because I wanted to express my appreciatation for the family that I now had- I wanted everyone to know that I was proud to wear those names on myself- a living tribute if you will which is what it sounds like you are after. So go for it my man, paying tribute to your Dad is admirable and cool IMO, getting a stupid sunshine or something on your ankle when you are drunk is just stupid. Unfortunatley you should think about public perception and get it in a place that you can cover up- a hand is not a great idea. Right or wrong perception is reality and the general corporate public world isn't going look favorably on a neck/hand tattoo. Also, it doesn't hurt all that bad- it's not excatly enjoyable, but nothing you can't deal with- and there is no "recovery time" issue at all- you put some ointment on it- cover it up for a few days and go about your business. Good luck my man and let us know how it turns out..... Excellent I wanted one ever since I was 18 but was dam sure I wanted it to be something I wouldn't regret. My last name is Webb and my friends called me Charlie Brown or ChuckB so I toyed with the idea of getting one of a spider with a Charlie Brown head and stripe across the middle but I didn't go as far as having an artist draw it. Long story short I never got the tattoo until I had my daughter, then I got her name and that was a no brainer. I got it exactly 1 month before my 30th birthday and I love it. So there's no rush but if you're sure that's what you want (it sounds like a good one to me) go for it. BTW I got mine on my upper right arm about tricep level. Do I bring in something with the design or do I tell the person what I want?

Either, but some artists won't accept another's design. You should watch Miami Ink...pretty cool show about a tat shop.
TimC
I do regret the TimC Forever Tattoo that I got but I was so drunk.. In 40 years when you're all fat and wrinkly, it'll stretch to read "Squeegie Forever" so at least ya got that going for ya.

Hat Trick
I have 2 on my upper back. I got the first when I was 17. I always wanted a Dragon and was in martial arts when i was younger. I had the artist hand draw it and used about 3 different dragoin styles combined. I am probably going to be getting the color brightened and adding flames from his mouth some day. I also got a flaming soccer ball that I like but I will also be getting the colors redone and different colors for the flames, right now they are yellow and green. Do not get a tatoo just cause you want one, get one because it has meaning to you. The flaming soccer ball symbolizes my best friend who committed suicide and my love for Soccer (no names or initials, i know what it means to me and that's all that matters). The First symbolizes the sacred nature of the dragon and the toughness I have built up in my life. I am proud to sport them for all to see. Of course I didn't want them on my arms, legs, or for everyone to see, unless it's appropriate. My kids love them, my wife does not. I don't tell her what she can and can't do with her body and she sure isn't going to with me She is opposed to me getting more, however I want more, so most likely some day I will get another one. Take my sister for example, she got some stupid stoner smilie on her ankle when she was drunk in Mexico, f'n wetodd, she ended up having to get it covered up cause it looked so bad. You are on the right path by researching them and making sure you know what you want and where you want it. I think the chest would be pretty cool IMO. Furd
Plus it's easier to show off if someone asks about it. Most tattoos that I have seen look like they were done in a prison.
Big F'n Dave
I would like to get a tattoo of the symbol in my avatar... Just a thought: Based on your MH pic and the somewhat Arabicish appearance of that symbol in your avy, if I saw you with that as a tattoo I'd assume you were a terrorist and beat your ass on the spot.
NSab
The tattoo will heal in 7 to 10 days, use A&D ointment several times per day to keep it nice while healing. As far as location, if you want it on your anklne fine, it shouldn't ever be a problem professionally. I would do it on your shoulder, chest or even up above your tricep on your outer shoulder. If this is the only tattoo you ever get, it has some some meaning to you, and that is all that matters!

Not exactly. It's a Hindu symbol. Aum (or Om)...

Goopster24
So I think I have narrowed it down to one of two general areas: 1. On my chest, over my heart. or 2. On my arm, either the upper part near the deltoid muscle or lower, in the middle, between my elbow and shoulder, basically on the bicep. I plan to go down to the city tomorrow and go to "Jade Dragon" which is suppose to be an excellent tattoo shop. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to someone there and discuss what I want and stuff. I'll keep everyone updated, thanks again for all the help. Edited July 5, 2006 by Goopster24

godtomsatan
It obviously looks like if I was to get one I would have to be able to cover it up.... Then why get one? I think it's a cool way to pay homage to your father, albeit certainly not the only way. Not that you should have to flaunt it at all, but what's the point of getting one if you're so concerned about people seeing it?

I definitely agree with you but sadly I think I do have to care what others think of it somewhat. The job aspect is huge and I definitely care about that. The only "exposed" place I would get it would be on top of my hand and that doesn't seem like it would fly....
yo mama
Take it from me: put the tat somewhere normal office garb (which may include short sleeve shirts) will cover it up. Specifically, keep it off your hands, wrists, forearms, neck, and (obviously) face. It doesn't so much a matter what the tat represents to YOU as much as a what having a visable tat *might* represent to your furture employer's outwardly presentable image. I don't regret getting ink done (lower calf). But I'm thankful I can pull up my socks and no one is the wiser. Just being "the type" of person that would get a tattoo is a huge turn off to some people. And those people could come in the form of potential employers, potential clients, or any number of other folk that could have an impact on wheter you pass go and collect $200. Clubfoothead
Any updates? I'm just back after the long weekend. I'll be 35 in less than a month. I've worked for 2 law firms, 1 insurance company and did construction and bartending since I got out of the Navy back in 1992. I've got 8 tattoos and am prettier than uncle steve. I do have 1 rule, not matter how I'm making my money: I won't get a tattoo anywhere someone could see it if I'm wearing a shirt and tie. I have an all black grim reaper in front of a mon on my right shoulder. I have an all black girl eating soup with a question mark over her hear on my right forearm (outside). I have an all black barbed wire bracelet on my right wrist. I have the Danzig skull in color on my left shoulder. I have a brown and lime green sun with an Aztec warrior in black and grey in the center of the sun on the outside of my left shoulder below the Danzig skull. I habe an all black skull with a snake going through it on my left forearm (inside). It was the symbol for the USS Iwo Jima battle group in Desert Storm. I have an all black tribal sun with my wife's astrological symbol in red in the middle on the outside ofm y my right calf. I have an all black Anpu with hyroglyphic symbols around him on my left calf on the outside. I'm getting at least two more. I'm average height and skinny so I prefer the art to be vertical rather than horizontal. I know the kind of cheap a$$ prison tats Furd is referring to. Find someone good. If it is a tat of any size and you aren't being asked for at least $100.00, run. The cheapest one of mine was $85.00 in 1989 and it would have been $120.00 but the place gave a discount for people getting them within a week of graduating boot camp. IMHO, this is your tribute to your father. It is not about what he would want you to do necessarily. You should get what you want where you want, but follow my one rule on location. If your father is like most, all he would want is for you to do what would make you happy as long as it wouldn't stifle your wage earning ability. Let us know how it turns out.
